I was able to watch it on YouTube just now by searching his name plus SNL.

I love this young actor and think it's fantastic that he embodies this kind of showmanship, which is sorely lacking in Hollywood these days, as you say. He and NPH should bring back big budget musicals!
If I can nominate my #1 Christmas Carol for the non-existent list, it would be Patrick Stewart's version. I believe there was a filmed version where he played Scrooge (obviously), but I was lucky enough to see him on Broadway some years ago doing a one-man version - amazing! I don't know if that was ever filmed but I would love to get a copy, if so.
Hey, there's actually a show that airs in Canada and not in the US that people south of the border *can't* watch on a website?? Heck, WE'LL open it up to you if you open up all of the "Sorry, this video is not available outside of the United States" to us!
;-)
Yes! Thank you, that is Embeth Davidtz. I'd seen her on In Treatment but couldn't place her. I don't think she's credited on IMDB yet because the ep hasn't aired or something. But that is definitely her.
Does anyone know the name of the British actress, or what she's been in before? She looks extremely familiar!
My husband thinks that pretty much *every* movie is a waste of his time and money, so we've agreed that I will go see films alone/with someone else unless he has a real desire to see something, which happens maybe once per year. On the other hand, he is perfectly willing to watch any piece of crap that comes on TV for free!
I am also a bit nervous about it, not because I don't love Downey Jr or Law but I've been a big fan of Sherlock Holmes for so long and am not sure I can see Downey Jr in this particular role. For me, the *perfect* Holmes will always be the great Jeremy Brett.
Thanks, George! I should have mentioned that I also have a signed copy of the book. It came out while I was still in college and Chabon went on a book signing tour. I think I was one of four people who went to the bookstore to see him - imagine what the lineups must be now!

I actually have a hard time imagining Saarsgard as Cleveland. I don't picture that actor as very tough and Cleveland always struck me as that.
I will add my love for the novel to your "numerous" comments about the source material. Until this week, I didn't even know this was being made into a film and I was more than a little surprised to find out that they'd written out an entire main character: Arthur Lecomte! Art meets him at the start of the book and *he* is the one who influences Art the most. He's also gay and, if I'm not mistaken, he introduces Art to his first homosexual experience. When I realized that his character would not be part of the movie, I decided I wouldn't go see it. Clearly the movie suffers from more than just one missing character.
I was 11 when this movie came out so must have been 12 or so when it played endless times on HBO, and I probably watched every single showing. Even today, the listening to the soundtrack brings a goofy smile to my face. I agree that Gene Kelly brought class to the film, as he did to every one he made. I didn't know Andy Gibb was supposed to play the male lead! I would have enjoyed watching him in it, though I doubt he would have been a better actor than Michael Beck.

Thinking about this movie makes me want to see it again!

"What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don't want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I've done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!"
