Jul 24th 2008 3:37PM I mean, he uses "For What It's Worth," which shouldn't have to be looked up in the first place. I'm not saying everyone should know all of Buffalo Springfield, but if you know one song, that's got to be it.

Jun 19th 2008 3:16AM The midwest is usually centered around Chicago. Midwest dialects don't necessary take on a traditional Chicago tone, but areas like lower michigan, ohio, indiana, illinois, etc are part of the midwest. It can vary when you get really far north (Wisconsin, Upper Peninsula) or farther south (St. Louis).

I'm from Michigan, currently live in Chicago, and it's pop.

Soda can be used to distinguish certain types, as in cream soda, orange soda, Italian sodas---more specialty flavors. Pop usually makes me think of a can, though if I want something to drink, I can just generally say pop, if I don't know what kind it will be.

And anyone who says Coke for everything is an idiot.

Packard Bell busts out new Puma laptops, trio of new desktop lines {Engadget}

Jun 10th 2008 11:53AM Think of it this way: if you have a circular mousepad, is it impossible to reach the corner of the screen?

The question isn't about it being circular, it's about it being large enough. If the circle is big enough, then it's fine. Obviously, however, it will be an inefficient use of space, given that you might as well have the corners, rather then rounding them off. But if it's big enough, then it's just an aesthetic quality, not one of functionality.

Side note: there was a really long ongoing conversation started by Clak, and I posted a nicely detailed comment, responding to the idea that Mac OSX is the best. But I think Engadet pulled the entire thread. Anyone else notice this?

Envy 133 and MacBook Air duke it out in the flesh {Engadget}

Jun 10th 2008 11:32AM Internet explorer != windows.

I personally can't stand OSX. I find everything to be needlessly turned into something confusing, that's supposed to be "helpful."
Like instead of easily having the "file" or preferences menu attached to a program, moving it away from the program, so it sits up on the top left, taking up where there should be apple's version of a start bar? Why make something more complicated than it should be? Why make everything visual, when it ends up becoming less efficient or convoluted? Why not just have a regular desktop to place things on, instead of the oversized interactive menu at the bottom of the screen which takes up extra space? Why not just have very easy to use max/minimize buttons on every program?
--------------

To each his own---but it's not as simple as "once you go Apple, you never go back." I really enjoy the ability to customize everything, and I often find it harder on Macs. Personal experience, though.

My point isn't that OSX is incapable of these things; everything I listed, Apple has its own version of. But they seem to take something simple, give it a few extra colors and a smooth animation, add a few limitations and inability to customize, and then they brand it as "simplicity."

Jun 6th 2008 4:03AM Have 99% of you not been reading Engadget for over a year? Good lord. There were a million posts about Stefan Eriksson and the madness that ensued.

I can understand people asking "Okay, what's the reference here?" and then waiting for an answer. But you guys seemed to be pissed the f*** off for not being part of an inside joke that's been on the outside for awhile now.

This was huge news for awhile. It's now transitioned into media representation through a popular music figure. They made a small post on it, so that those of us who read the site a lot get something to chuckle about. Calm down.
