Dell's Inspiron Zino HD on sale now in America: starts at $229, doubles as an HTPC {Engadget}

Nov 12th 2009 10:10AM Is the included gfx chip (not the upgraded one) good enough for smooth 1080p playback via the HDMI output or do we need to get the upgraded one? What about the CPU? Is the stock one good enough or do you need to choose on of the other options? Just want to know what the minimum requirement is for good BluRay/mkv 1080p playback without spending too much. If i don't need to upgrade the CPU or gfx chip then I would rather put the money into the harddrive capacity and of course the BluRay drive.

Maingear SHIFT reviewed: $7,000 can shatter a lot of records {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 11:50AM Yeah, I cant believe at that price they give just a BD-ROM - not a burner! Talk about stingy. When you pay $7000 for a machine - everything in there should be the best there is given that they are taking a huge premium of several thousand dollars just for the overclock.

MediaFire pees on Skipscreen's boots, seeks to ban Firefox add-on {Download Squad}

Oct 7th 2009 8:04PM What is there to even skip on a MediaFire download page? It is pretty instant. They dont even have the dreaded countdowns or anything. Of all the free file hosting sites - MediaFire definitely ranks one of the best where MegaUpload and Rapidshare would be the worst - because those sites truly deserve skipscreen.

Create one installer for dozens of apps with Volery {Download Squad}

Oct 6th 2009 7:26AM Good idea - some suggestions:

1. would like to see an offline version that I could carry around on a USB stick.
2. Allow us to click on a program and be taken to the homepage so we can find out what it is about.
3. Moving forward, you should sort the listing out A-Z. Right now it is a mess. In the future if it does expand - you would need to organise everything into sections eg internet.

Other programs you should include:

Microsoft Security Essentials
Combined Community Codec Pack (Handles pretty much every audio/video format going with a nice 5MB file size)
Avira
Internet Explorer 8 (If someone insists on using IE - they may as well have the latest much more secure version)
Paint.NET
Windows Live Messenger
Yahoo Messenger
Google Talk
AIM
Daemon Tools Lite
ImgBurn
Comodo Internet Security

Sony adopts Chrome as default browser for VAIO line {Engadget}

Sep 1st 2009 12:59PM In 10 years time when Google Chrome is the browser with 90% market share and Google is involved in our lives in every little way (as pointed out above - emails, finance, work etc) then we can point fingers at the EU and remind them that this is all their fault for messing with this scenario. They may be trying to control Microsoft, but Google and Apple will surely have the last laugh since they are being completely left to their own devices (pun intended).

Sony adopts Chrome as default browser for VAIO line {Engadget}

Sep 1st 2009 12:33PM WAIT WAIT WAIT! JUST HOLD UP A MINUTE!

So according to the EU, Microsoft CANNOT preinstall IE8 because they want consumers to have choice when it comes to web browsing, yet Sony are pre-installing Chrome on their entire range? How is that giving the consumers choice? yeah i'm sure Chrome is a great browser - hell, every browser has its good and bad, but if Sony are deciding for the customer then surely this is all wrong. The minute the purchaser starts up the system and has to put in their info, the ballot for the browsers should come up and allow the consumer to choose which to actually install. I think this deal between Google and Sony is very bad and should not be allowed. The end user should choose. If Sony are just going to preinstall a browser anyway, then this is totally unfair to Microsoft as that was the basis of this whole silly issue brought on by the EU in the first place.

I hope you are happy Opera, since you started this mess! oh well, as long as Opera isn't being installed :P
