Yeah, it's definitely crashing Mail for me too. I love the improvements, but I don't think I can work without Mail...
Yeah that's exactly what I mean Ed. These services really wouldn't need all that much CPU or RAM to accomplish a small task such as checking a connection/page and then displaying the badge or getting the current location and storing it in a file that could be access by the full app later on.

Really don't see why Apple isn't going down this route and expecting client devs to set up servers to push from... or are they? hmmmm!
I think providing a hook to run a small part of the app in the background is the way forward. So the iPhone OS manager would call to the registered apps, calling a specific potion of code that isn't the whole app, but could write to a file or change a badge icon.

Allowing apps to register for system events, such as song playing, location change etc or just ask to be called every x minutes would save the developer having to organise a server to send notifications.

This allows for gps trackers, and messaging apps that want to check every so often for updates. I can't think of another reason why an app would want to run in the background?
It's really the only feature missing at this point. :D
Yup, I've been using the AppleScript with the AppleScript menu item (as I have a few AppleScripts, and I appear to be one of the only people who don't care all that much for Quicksilver).

As it's only for the one boot, just hitting restart in Windows boots me back into Mac OS X.
Yeah, in Britain we say "plump for something".
Could we get visual confirmation of that?

Sarcasm if it weren't obvious. ;-)
Google Reader also has the little bookmarklet thing to go to the webpages of the articles in the feed. I cmd+1 (first bookmark in my bookmarks bar) in safari through my feeds and I get the original article pop up.

It is a little disorientating at first to jump from bbc to tuaw, engadget and such, but it works a treat. I hardly ever go to the Reader page actually.
Nice.

Looks like this static though, may be better if it checked via JavaScript and update the image automatically?
Basically Growl is a notification utility, which displays messages. In this script it displays a message every 30secs saying not online, until it is (where it will say it is online!).

I've made a non-Growl version which simply beeps (because a dialog window you have to click to get rid of is annoying) when the store isn't online and gives a dialog window when it comes back up. This is at http://danieltull.co.uk/files/scripts/IsAppleStoreOnlineNoGrowl.scpt

If you want to get rid of the beeping every 30secs, just delete the line "beep" in the script. :)
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
