holy crap, your avatar, Jungle Wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu is awesome, dunno why I haven't seen anyone mention it anywhere before.
@randomguy

I"m also from Taiwan buy rayfire is completely correct. People are going to be ignorant about one thing or another. This time it's the convoluted nature of the political relations of China and Taiwan, the next time you or I could be just as clueless about other political affairs unbeknownst to us. Or it could have nothing to do with politics, like why ppl line up days in advance for the iPhone. Ignorance is a fact of life, everyone is ignorant of something, no mortal is omnipotent. Therefore, it is only natural for ppl to make assumptions on things they don't know. After all, that's how we learn, we generalize (grammatical rules and such) and that's how we retrieve our memories (through a variety of imprecise events, bridging through logical assumptions).
@rayfire

As much as I love Taiwan as the next Taiwanese guy, you have an excellent point. A lot of bullshit starts when ppl can't communicate correctly, especially in politics. It's incredibly difficult to balance the point you're trying to make and being politically correct because it tends to apportion more weight on political correctness. However, if you aren't being politically correct, ppl jump on it and starting flaming each other. It's a sad state of affairs.
You must be joking, I lived in Taiwan for 15 years and you're telling me they don't use Traditional Chinese? Everything is written in Traditional Chinese there. Every McDonald sign, KFC sign, restaurant menu, Taiwan website, baby food nutritional facts, road sign, etc... Get it right if you're going to correct someone.
I grew up in Taiwan, the food is great!

"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
