I've always wondered what would happen if the front seat passenger was leaning forward to pick something up off the floor when the airbag deploys. Judging by this video, it would probably break your neck.
Yeah, I don't know why Autoblog and others in the automotive press are so convinced that this new Ferrari is entry-level. Luca di Montezemolo has always maintained that there wouldn't be an entry-level Ferrari and if these leaked specs are accurate it looks like it will slot above the F430 and below the 612 and 599.
I'll be honest, I'd consider eBaying it. A college student has to eat.
The picture looks like a Corolla and a Civic are mating. The offspring would be a Toyonda Corvic.
I agree. The C pillar and the entire rear of the car needs some work. The proportions of the car just isn't right but I'm hoping thats just the usual concept car exaggeration and flair.
I'm surprised this is being offered in Europe first. The Prius and hybrids in general don't sell well in Europe because diesel motors can get similar fuel economy without the complexity and weight of the hybrid powertrain. Well I guess all that really matters is that its cheap, lightweight and fun. I hope Honda gets the styling right with this one unlike the Pilot and Acura RL they showed recently.
I agree that all-electric cars are better than hybrids but I don't agree that battery technology is being held back. I think people underestimate how much energy it takes to propel over 3500lbs of mass. We're seeing the disadvantages of using fossil fuels but there are reasons why we've been using them to power our civilization for over a century. High energy density is one of them. Batteries are very inefficient by comparison but I'm sure there are people working on it> We just don't hear about every day.
Carbon fiber is taken very seriously especially in motorsports but it is very expensive. It is trickling down to more affordable cars though. The M3, and corvette ZR1 has some carbon fiber body panels but those cars still cost over $60k. And comparing commercial aircraft to cars is like apples and oranges. I read somewhere that a Boeing 787, which uses a lot of carbon composite, costs $151 million each. Not exactly price competitive with your average Honda.
I agree that those extra aspects of competition are great but the article says that the Champ Car teams are being offered free cars. Does that mean that everyone will be using IRL-spec chassis, Honda motors and Firestone tires? Also, IRL uses ethanol for fuel, I don't know what the fuel regs are for CCWS.
Thats some serious dedication. The steering wheel and tires are particularly impressive.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
