Surely the applications for this are endless:
Tent skins, thermos flasks, clothing, ice rinks, air con, spacecraft.

I'd be interested to know the effectiveness and tolerances of this stuff...
I'm with 'Wwhat'...

I've seen more impressive and considerably faster balancing bots in hackaday posts made by amateurs out of a box of scraps... What gives guys? They spend approximately 1 gillion dollars US and they can't even make a simple balancing bot that they are confident won't fall over? Am I missing something here or what? Does it run on good intentions or something?

P.S. I'm not trying to be a troll of start a flame war here guys, just genuinely confused...
$300 for an electric heating element... really?
People pay money for these pieces of crap?
@radarskiy
A fair point, however I would argue that even WHS does not come preconfigured, and to make proper use of this kind of device one would need skills above that of Average Joe. As such, both will require setting up, but I suppose WHS would require less - but only if you only want the things that Acer have decided you want.

@Brian McClure
True, but who has a dedicated NAS box in a domestic setting? You would want it to host tomcat or apache, maybe SVN, something like Orb for streaming to games consoles, torrents, live mesh... the list goes on. I would say that it is far more economical to have one box to do it all even on the power front.

@Everyone
I am considering switching my server from WHS to Ubuntu mainly for simpler svn over ssh access, but regret loosing RDC because it is simply better than VNC.
I don't understand why people buy these. Just this morning I priced up the parts for a similar machine to build myself (Core2 4g ram 1TB mATX) and it came in at around £250 here in the UK. Slap Ubuntu on it and bam, one media server.
Is the extra money for the backup software crap? Who the hell uses that when you can do it yourself with less hassle?

Also, if you use linux instead of Windows server, you can have ssh access more easily and cool stuff like SVN on it too...
w00t!

It really irritates me that things that are labelled as "international" generally are in fact nowhere near.
When will people realise that the whole concept of nationality became rediculous when international business and travel became widely accessable. We are all human beings, why not share and so speed up our development?

Conclusion: We need some kind of global event to highlight how insignificant our differences and quarrels really are. Our whole planet could be wiped out tomorrow by a freak gamma burst or meteorite and on a universal scale no one would care.

Also, I might as well say it. There is no god and the religious' pitiful need to justify their own existence is laughable.
As technolofy develops netbooks will become more powerful. However notebooks will also follow this trend.
Manufacturers will use the term 'Netbook' as a more attractive alternative to 'budget' or 'low-end' in order to peddle goods to those who don't really need the latest and greatest and aren't prepared to shell out for it.
Actually in the UK the fine is considerably more than £30... £1000 fine for car drivers, raising to £2,500 for goods vehicle drivers or coach/bus drivers, and three penalty points on the offender's licence.

However, I agree that it is a good idea, no-one needs to make a call that badly that they should be allowed to increase their risk of killing themselves, or worse, others.
Um, $60 is a bit on the high side... Here in the UK you can pick up an 8Gb stick for ~£10 in your local supermarket...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
