Dell Inspiron 13 now available build-to-order {Engadget}

Aug 26th 2008 10:56PM What is the reason the manufacturers now supply glossy screens on recent laptops?
These glossy screens catch plenty of reflections, it is tiring for the eyes over a long period of time.

I have tried a glossy screen for a short period and found that it was quite annoying. I would appreciate the opinion of anyone of you who has good experience with both types of screens.

Thanks in advance.

Hans Tan's LED clock spells out time in text {Engadget}

Apr 28th 2008 9:50PM The picture above is the version 2 of this LED Clock. I strongly advise you to buy it before it runs out of stock.

Version 3 will come with text displayed in reverse. Version 4 is like v3, but you'll need night vision google to read the text. V5 is V4 + you will need to read out loud the time. If you spell incorrectly or the clock doesn't like your voice, you'll be electrocuted.

So if you don't want to die by a nervous crackdown just by reading the time, V2 is rather a bearable torture.

Toshiba unveils Japan's "most eco-friendly" super toilet {Engadget}

Nov 9th 2007 2:54PM To be eco-friendly, a toilet must: use less water, better yet, recycle the urine to reduce the amount of pollutants flushed out to public drainage.

Warming water, warming the seat, using electricity, etc. are NOT eco-friendly. The energy consumed in Japan just to heat the toilet seats is probably higher than what a poor country need to light their house in the evening.

Uruguay places the first OLPC XO order; Negroponte says Windows is "key" {Engadget}

Oct 30th 2007 11:58AM OLPC will run Windows Vista fine. However, to get past the login screen, you'll need to upgrade to quad-CPU, 8 GB RAM, high end graphics card and probably change the monitor too.

Citizen unveils Bluetooth-enabled i:Virt watches {Engadget}

Oct 22nd 2007 11:06PM I hope this is not like other Japanese watches which tend to cram a lot of useless features in a watch. And this Citizen watch seems to be worse.

What I hate the most is the display which is full of fancy moving progress bars and indicators also that the time and dates become tiny and hard to read. On the Casio I have, the stop watch has a curious extra feature: if you mistake the reset for the start/stop, then it add a 5 seconds delay when you push start (what an idiotic feature!). Then there are FIVE different alarms slots. When you set one, you have to take special care to set the alarm slot you want and make sure that this will be the one that will ring.

I wonder how one can still read the time on a Japanese watch.

Konami's push-up counter keeps you motivated {Engadget}

Oct 14th 2007 11:51PM It is unbelievable how such a stupid product could make it into the market. If you do push up, the only thing you need is to know how to do it properly WITHOUT cheating.

This device is for people who need to learn counting. Because they probably have low IQ, so in order to go slowly, they have to do some push up to operate the device.

The manufacturer should mention that this is limited only to the national market.
