Apr 14th 2008 4:48PM But they don't mention the lens' f-stop range. For the same f-stop, the lenses for bigger sensors will be much bigger for the same field of view (longer focal length needed). If they skimp on the lens and make it a slower one, your DOF advantage (and a presumed low-light advantage) will be gone, and you could have a just-as-good thing, or a bit worse, depending on how slower they make the lens.

Apr 10th 2008 9:10AM The HP slimline with one of the cheapest full-size BD drives (which will require you to upgrade the processor to a C2D and graphics card to a 8500GT) with added-on Wireless-N will all-in-all cost you about $900, with 500GB HDD and no Bluetooth. This one seems to use a slot-loading BD drive (much more expensive), a 8600M card (arguably better and more expensive than a 8500GT) and a better audio option (7.1 as opposed to 5.1 on the HP). Also, the HP weighs like 9kg, compared to this one at 3-something. And it IS much smaller as well.
I see this costing like $1000+ if it is to come in these next few months.

Mar 26th 2008 10:59AM Yes! Thank you. Wondered how long would take for someone to state the obvious. I was looking for something like this a couple of months ago to use with my Westone UM2's and the Sony Ericsson ones were the only ones I could find. Sony themselves are coming out with another Sony-branded model, but it's more expensive. Wish we'd see more of these.
By the way, besides from using with any headphone, you can use this with a BT transmitter not only with portables, but with other equipment. I use my iPod connected to a Dolby Headphone processor, and it's pretty inconvenient carrying those in your pocket when doing stuff around the apartment.

Mar 21st 2008 2:27AM I absolutely despise all that crapware. All other PC manufacturers to my knowledge do this too, I guess they get money from the crapware companies. Although, I have bought several Gateway laptops, and the last one I bought came with a completely clean Vista DVD. You'll need to reinstall, but it's easy as just putting in the disc and restarting. That's why I like Gateways, at least for the cheaper segment of PCs. I don't know if they already changed that, though, but it was free of charge (and they gave you a freaking physical disk too).

Mar 11th 2008 3:51PM The advantage of 1200 vs. 1080 is simple: more pixels. You're not losing ANYTHING with 1200 horizontal lines of pixels, you're just gaining desktop space. My monitor and others have an option to not scale to full screen whatever signal comes in, so you can get 1080p with a perfect 1:1 pixel mapping and 16:9 ratio. There is absolutely no need for this kind of thing for the PC. It takes away more than it gives (which is pretty much nothing).
