Yeah, mine only has $1 for the transaction... I only bought the upgrade last night, so I'll wait until they've properly processed it until making judgement. I only bought the touch earlier in the week through a local retailer who had it $30 less than the apple online store.

It's odd, because the transaction history for itunes is still saying $24.99 (australian).
I agree,if you like the music surely you want to support the artist who made it???

I'm not sure of the law in the states, but the law here in australia was amended (I believe) to allow single personal use copies of music (ie copy a cd you purchased to mp3). Previously for us it was technically illegal to record tv to vhs...

Obviously this does not include distributing said copies of music over the internet, with a maximum $50000AU fine and 10 years imprisonment.

If she had personal copies of music for personal use, sure the RIAA are totally in the wrong and need a kick up the arse. But this chick distributed this music over the internet. And lied to the judge about it. The fine is a little excessive, but this is theft, and RIAA should have the right to prosecute anyone stealling music.

If no one stole music, we wouldn't need DRM now, would we?
I can't think of one other country that has anybody claiming $1 million for a $600 product that had it's price cut after a few months.

Companies can charge whatever they want for a product. I think people are stupid for buying the iphone in the first place, more so on release, but that's just my opinion.

Every electronic product either gets replaced or price reduced. It's a fact of life. All I'm giving is the generic view of America from the outside world, as portrayed by the international media.

And as for nobody caring? Do you not pay tax dollars to fund the legal system? Are not people getting screwed over by health insurance providers, people's homes lost by corporate collapse?
Oh, Noes!!!

I bought my xobx 360 at the begining of the year, and then the price got cut 6 months later!
I demand $1 million dollars to refund my pain and suffering, and the many hours I have spent playing it.

Dumbass American legal system. "Only in America"
Of course this is absolute crap. If apple were doing a PDA, it would look exactly like the ipod touch. We would have seen it months ago.

Apple have proven their disinterest in this area with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Where are all the extra Apple endorsed apps? File browser? Nope, thought so. Not happening.

So let me get this straight...

You think that people hacking software (which is prohibited by the EULA and possibly other laws) should be catered for when designing firmware? In essence, design their whole firmware around a security flaw?

I would have thought (haven't checked) that AT&T have provided a way to unlock the phone for a price ie plan cancellation cost. I can't see why Apple should in any way allow it to be done any other way, ESPECIALLY when the user signs an agreement with the telco and apple agreeing to such provisions.

Software piracy/hacking is also a crime. I don't think the end justifies the means in this case, now, does it?

Don't get me wrong, I think the whole iPhone thing is an absolute rip off, but that doesn't justify making Apple cater for those who break their contracts.

And as for using the other functions of the iPhone without the phone - come on! It's called an iPHONE!!! It is marketed as a phone, so why shouldn't apple require people to use it as such?
Probably because Video Ezy now own, or are in the process of owning, blockbuster.
droool... I so want that camera!!!
Hell, yeah, sign me up. Much better than a castrated ipod touch.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"All of these new nettops have me intrigued. I'm looking for a small, quiet and cheap PC to replace my aging tower in my home office, and all it really needs to do is load Microsoft Office, check email and surf the web. Is there a particular nettop that's better (or a better value) than another? I know it's a rather new segment, but hopefully someone has taken a chance on one already. Thanks!"
