Not necessarily commission checks, more likely higher profit margins.
A few years back, I was considering the X505 as my first laptop, but unfortunately it was underpowered, even at the premium it demanded back then.

Hopefully, this new sibling won't meet the same fate *cough*Atom*cough*, and I just might buy it.
Good luck etching those shades of gray if any of 'em win.
IntelGood, IntelBetter, IntelBest.
Competition is good and all, but somehow I don't think ASUS's strategy of "spend very little on marketing, instead spend the majority of budget in engineering products" is going to work, especially when your set competitor is Apple, a company that's successful largely due to its marketing. I mean, just take a look at the recent iPhone 3G S vs Pre poll. Regardless of what innovations or improvements Palm offered, and the fact that the iPhone 3G S is literally the same thing as the original 3G (but costs much more), people are still going to buy the iPhone. Bam - marketing magic!

A few marketing tips:
1. Lose the "Heart Touching" part of your slogan.
2. Fire the people who designed the Eee logo (or blacklist the company responsible).
3. Spend more on marketing.
Amazing. Even in a post about the 360, PS3 and wii, Engadget still somehow manages to find a way to mention the iPhone.

I usually just ignore all the noise about Engadget's supposedly non-existing bias, but come on....

BTW Tom it's spelled "amicable", although if you know of a word "amciable" meaning "handing over money through gritted teeth while smiling in a forced manner" then you've nailed it just right. ;8¬)

I suggest you hit the read link. The quotes are around the word for a reason.
Instead of making dozens of models, maybe they should just let people choose their own configurations. Surely it won't cost more than producing all these different models?!
Why don't they just make the steering wheel and gas/brake pedals touchscreen too while they're at it?
It actually looks very decent!

My first computer was a Packard Bell 486. So hideous I wasn't able to google up any pictures. I used to think the monitor mounted speakers were cool, and the rippled mouse was simply bas ass - until the left button died like within a month.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
