Totally agree with you that it's more fun to go to a store to pick out a CD. I hate all the crap quality downloads and still go buy my music the traditional way. As for Anime, I can't agree more. But in this case it's not the convenience of digital downloads, because most rips are terrible quality. The problem is the distributors themselves who charge ridiculous amounts of money for it and yet the release quality is worse than that of originals from Japan and dubs are garbage 95% of the time. Seriously, average of $30 for a 2-3 episode disc is insane. Another thing is pretty much lack of trailers and such so people know what they're getting. No wonder people download the stuff online, most can't even afford to buy a full season of their favorite series w/t spending a week's worth of money. Corporate greed shall speak their undoing!
Hate to break it to all the people but yet another "addon" for iWhatever goes to say buy other brand that has everything built in. iPod and iPhone are terrible value and offer little features and owners have to buy overprices little addons for functionality that should have already been there for the price. I'd neglect to say this if iPhone was a sub $200 phone but for $400/500 it should have came with all that crap build in, and 3G there too. While this is great that this company came up with this, it'd still suck badly to have to carry the device along with you and it have it stick out like that (which will probably result in it being disconnected when not in use and likely lost). Just like Steve likes it, he's got control over the customers and milking them not so slowly. Yet Apple customers are still loyal for some reason and still go and spend heaps of money on Apple products with all the alternative around them. Smart shoppers for sure! HTC FTW!
If you're getting 3 ultra, you will probably need a 1100w or 1200w QUALITY psu. 3 ultras can suck up just over 800w alone under heavy load so it would leave little to the other system components. Depending on whether you overclock you proc, number of hard drives and all that will possibly push you beyond 1000w. That's of course if your games will pust these cards to the max but better safe than sorry. 3 of these cards will eat around 460w idle. Either way, I think this is a total waste of money. Not only they don't show a reasonable boost in performance relative the insane cost of the setup, nVidia is not going to release 8800gt/gts G92 with dual sli connector thus only limiting you to the most expensive cards. Seeing that anticipations if growing for Geforce 9 as early as coming February I'd hold off on these (or at least G92 based GTX would help since current 8800gtx/ultra gpu's are outdated). Crysis still runs poorly @1920 on UHQ even with 3 ultras and all other top hardware.
Actually that's false! Every machine leaving factory (HP, Dell, etc.) is configured by that manufacturer and if they don't include Opera (Which kinda sucks, yes it's fast but it doesn't render stuff as well as Firefox) and instead they bundle lots of other shit. Seeing how many poorly done website are on the web and the fact that Opera isn't forgiving, make it not render stuff properly. Just because one browser goes away or gets fixed so it follows standards properly is not going to fix all those websites. That's why at times IE's forgiveness of poor code is actually handy. Honestly, I could care less what they bundle since I build my own pc and customize my os. I'm however sick tired of all those stupid ass lawsuits shooting left and right. Guess everyone's trying to score a buck on the system.
Nice that it's green and all, but 150 mile range isn't practical in trucking or delivery. Also seeing that it takes very long time to charge it will make it even less useful. Makes me also wonder what one would do if this thing runs out of juice, you can't fuel it up and going to have to find an outlet, somewhere. Hybrid while not completely clean would have made more sense. I guess if they'd put solar panels on its roof, that might help this overall.
Indeed it does, the motherboard in it albeit using standard platform has proprietary chips that prevent any mods. I got myself a box for $1 at a closing CompUSA hoping to retool it for something or use the hdd out of it. I had zero luck and there's little to no info on it online. I don't care about the movies on the hdd but it cannot be reused apparently. I know the box runs some flavor of linux but company who makes for mobo for it wouldn't even reply to my email. I ended up gutting most of the stuff inside and retooled the front wires and portion of the original mobo connectors and hooked them up to my via mini itx board and the piece ended up being a media pc. The enclosure faired nicely for that purpose actually, although needed quite a bunch of mods done to it. Too bad they made it so proprietary that it cannot be given a second life as it is.
Well, some people commute and would like to watch videos from their phone/ipod/etc. on a bigger more comfortable and private screen. At the price they ask for this, there's plenty or reason for some people to get this device. While I would like a higher res one for other uses, you have to remember that other companies charge more than $500 for the same resolution and those that make headsets with 720p are hovering in between $1000 and $2000. Heck, if you need high def that much and got the money, might as well just buy a tv so other members of family can enjoy the well spent money.
Dude, you've obviously never dealt with Microsoft and have not a clue what you're talking about. Microsoft is one of the easiest companies to deal with and they do provide excellent support, which is not common to see from a large company. I've been in IT field for over 7 years by now and MS has been great for support and partner support. Not something I can say about other "great" companies out there such as Apple, Dell and such. I don't work for them and not a fanboy either but I've had consistently good experience with them and it really irks me seeing people like yourself jumping on flaming bandwagon just to crap on something. Why don't you support your statement with a few examples to make it stand?
Why would anyone buy this with a subscribtion? This laptop whilst decent enough for a typical user is not worth a whole lot more than the bast price. In walmart you get a similar model with nearly twice the specs for less than $500. So I'd guess this one is like $350-400 new, tops. In just one year you'd pay $180 worth of subscription money and not even sure whether person would even own the computer. Don't know, perhaps the extra software they put in is worth it but personally I'd avoid anything that requires subscriptions as much as possible and now of all things it's a computer. If the computer was say $100 then it'd make sense but this just doesn't look like it'd take off. Even if it was for money saving (payments), you'll save more money buying it on a credit card and pay it off in a couple of months.
WTF kind of patent is that? Each letter is mapped to a closest English equivalent. And besides, accent letters on OLPC are in different location on the same key so they're not in identical positions anyway. Yet another billy bob "company" in Nigeria try to scam people and just anyone, but the company that went to help their own damn country. Let's hope all of their AK-47's break down because of this stupid patent infringement crap.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I have a MacBook Pro and an Xbox 360 and I would like to get a 20- to 24-inch display that will support both devices. The speakers should be inbuilt, or there should be an aux out on the display to hook up external speakers. Help! Please!"
