At 650$ a pop they could have 2 units with extended warranty which is way better then any one unit even with overnight - onsite - instant replacement - 24/7 support .
Typical government thinking spending your paytax $$$ and then everyone wonders why the dollar is tumbling down .
Why would Acer or Gateway need PB and its no so hot image ?
Btw Acer is more of a DELL/Gateway wannabe , low cost/high value and subpar quality on the low end notebooks .
I don't see why they need Gateway other then to get into the US market which they can do better by pushing the new Gemstones more aggresively and introducing them to consumers as a first wave .
I think some of the posters should not have a laptop at all .
The idea of this laptop is to have a computer that will work with no electricity and be rugged which you can't find for 200$ or even 400$ , with all the press you should have got it by now and quit with the "get a desktop/walmart laptop etc." remarks .
The main problem I hope they dealt with would be the possible usage of this laptop for internet scams if it falls in the wrong hands .
"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
