Hands-on and unboxing: Nero LiquidTV | TiVo PC {Engadget HD}
Sep 30th 2008 3:01PM This is DOA without CableCard support. Without it it can't measure up to Vista Media Center. I also think Tivo messed up by charging a service fee. Now if they come out with a Tivo media center extender that doesn't require an additional service fee then I might change my tune. I would be willing to pay $10/month to have one PC that could record all of my content and serve it up to extenders around the house. Using a TivoHD as an extender is a joke because of the additional monthly fee. Also, managing recordings on two different boxes is inefficient and annoying.

Sep 17th 2008 11:48PM To clarify my wireless HDMI comment from last week, I wish wireless HDMI had been available when I did my install. It turned out being a real headache getting the cable pulled and working reliably. I ended up buying\exchanging 3 different HDMI cables before I found one that was acceptable to me. I still get the occasional sparkle when watching HD content, but I'm living with it. Now that I have a nice cable run to the projector, I wouldn't pull it out in favor of wireless HDMI.
I don't want to spend the money on a good HDMI amplifier because I don't think I'll need it once I upgrade my receiver. Like many people, I'm still using a perfectly good 3 year old unit that only has component outputs. I use it strictly for audio switching\amplification. As soon as I upgrade to an HDMI receiver, I'll be passing the output of my scalar through it. I'm optimistic that the receiver will boost the output just enough to eliminate the sparkles.
A reasonably priced wireless HDMI solution would be a nice alternative for people like me who have challenging installation issues.

Sep 15th 2008 7:51PM I want wireless HDMI right now. I have a projector that's 35' from the rack. My video processor attenuates the HDMI output something fierce, so I needed a beefy cable. I was getting sparkles with the highest quality monoprice cable, so I ended up spending more that I wanted for a top end Bluejean cable that works most of the time. I refuse to pay $$$ for an HDMI signal amplifier. My projector is attached to a scissor lift, and the massive HDMI cable was a nightmare to route. Wireless HDMI would have solved all of my problems (minus the power cord). There's no way I'm spending more for wireless HDMI than for a Blu-ray player. $199 is the sweet spot for me.
Hell freezes over, new DirecTV HD TiVo on the way {Engadget HD}
Sep 3rd 2008 2:30PM This is apparently a "non-exclusive" agreement between DirecTV and Tivo. Hopefully that opens the door for a similar offering from Tivo for Dish Network (assuming Tivo wins the lawsuit). I'd personally love to have the Dish HD Only package available with Tivo.

Sep 3rd 2008 12:26PM Excellent. Now if DirecTV would allow Tivo to support the upcoming DirecTV USB tuner (HDPC-20) on the TivoHD I'd be all set. I'm locked into my TivoHD for 2 more years.

No DirecTV HD for Vista Media Center until 2010? {Engadget HD}
Jul 7th 2008 12:28PM I'll try posting this again, since my last post disappeared.
I am dreaming. Obviously we won't see Tivo support DirectTV until they kiss and make up, and I doubt it will be in the form of the HDPC-20. My comment was more of a shot at Microsoft's schedule slippage than anything else. We've been waiting for the HDPC-20 for what seems like forever. Now we hear that Microsoft might not support it until 2010, what a load a crap. If DirecTV would hand it over to Tivo then they would have it integrated with the TivoHD in 3 months. It's ridiculous that we have to wait 2 years for Microsoft to put the necessary hooks into Vista. I can't imagine DirecTV is too excited about this thing being shelved for 2 more years.

No DirecTV HD for Vista Media Center until 2010? {Engadget HD}
Jul 7th 2008 10:36AM Any bets on whether the Tivo will support DirecTV before Microsoft does? I'd love to plug the HDPC-20 into my TivoHD. I'm sure as heck not using the USB ports for anything else. DirecTV is missing a golden opportunity to win back a bunch of cable customers once the analog shutoff kicks in. I personally use my TivoHD for OTA and analog cable. As soon as Comcast flips the switch I'll have to decide whether I want to use cable card or switch to satellite. If DirecTV allowed me to use the HDPC-20 with my TivoHD I'd switch today.
