Texas Instruments is feeling some heat from the much lower power levels (60% less) required by the latest LED backlit LCD HDTVs competing with TI driven RPTVs. There are a lot more advantages to LED backlighting as can be seen here...

I think the PhlatLight PT120 LED lighting for the new Samsung Slim RPTV range, such as the 61 inch HL-T6187S, makes them worth further thought. They certainly seem to be doing well in sales through Amazon. LED lighting removes the possibility of rainbow effects and improves brightness.

Two thousand hours lamp life is not that great especially when you consider it is the time till the lamp will be outputting on HALF of its original brightness. Lamp replacement is a significant cost of projector ownership.

There are some new Diamond Lamps which are about 10% cheaper and have the bulb from the original manufacturer who supplied the projector manufacturer. There's more info at http://www.presentationtek.com/2008/01/09/replacement-projector-lamps-and-bulbs/

Unfortunately while FM traffic enabled you still have to purchase a service subscription for traffic reports. This includes the other models in the Garmin Nuvi 700 range as well.

One thing not mentioned in the post is the smaller form factor of the Nuvi 700 series to the Nuvi 600 series making it more portable.

The Nokia N810 will handle turn-by-turn navigation for cars utilizing Wayfinder Navigator. There are more details at http://gpstekreviews.com/2007/12/27/nokia-810-internet-tablet-gps-enabled-review/

GPS reciever is built in with the Nokia N810.

Magellan have done a great job with the widescreen 4200 models.

The voice command functionality of the 4250 is particularly useful although you have to use particular key words rather than natural speech. It won't be long before voice commands and responses follow more conversational speech patterns however. A new company Cognitive Code (cognitivecode.com)has developed software which can translate natural language into machine understandable concepts then formulate natural language replies.

The Samsung 81 Series with LED backlighting is a sight to see. The blacks delivered by having LED backlighting are incredible. The LED backlighting also gives a wider color gamut for more natural images and reduces the motion blur which LCDs are prone to. Samsung's approach to reducing motion blur is different to other manufacturers and is actually better for gaming. There is a full review of this TV's technology at www.presentationtek.com?p=267
The new "Enhanced Positioning Technology" mentioned by TomTom in there promotional literature refers to "Dead Reckoning" technology by SiRF which using micro accellerometers can accurately maintain positioning accuracy when a GPS lock is lost eg. in a tunnel.

An awesome feature of the GO 920 and G0 920T is the Voice Prompted Address Entry allowing you to speak to the unit to enter the address you want to be directed to.

More information on the technology behind the GO 920 can be found at http://gpstekreviews.com/2007/11/12/tomtom-go-920-and-go-920t-premium-automotive-gps-navigators-review/

"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
