I think he is stuck with a Nokia or Sony Ericsson. Your limiting a lot of stuff by not going fruit logo's.
I had that restarted the iPhone and it worked.
GPS isn't going anywhere. Almost everything the military has relies on GPS now. Bombs jets ships troops. Plus tons of consumer devices. Worst case scenario is that private companies launch satellites but I doubt it would even come to that.
I think most truckers drive through a state on the highway which most use federal money to pay for.
They have pay toilets in San Francisco also. They clean themselves after. I think they might have them in San Jose also. Can't remember.
Governments should not regulate much of anything. I think you have a great idea having set charges and being able to roam all over the world without extra fee's. You have the ability to get investors and start your own company. I am sure if it is such a great idea that the government should get involved you would have plenty of customers to fund such a company and would easily take customers away from the larger companies. You do have a vote with every dollar you spend to strengthen companies you believe are doing the right thing.
I don't know if it is quite as duh as that. If you turn data roaming off on a device to not allow significant charges that sounds like it would shut off the devices ability along with all child programs on the device. Maybe a warning that data roaming will be restored by such and such app allow or disallow when the device data roaming is off.
I don't think the one holding this back is Apple. I think it is the record companies. Apple has music under iTunes Plus that is DRM free and cost the same now as a regular protected file. Record companies I think are the ones giving the license to Amazon and not Apple.
Been buying DRM free music from apple from what they have available now. Seems to be growing very slowly.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
