App Store Stories: One man's app. Three corporations. Lyrics 2 against the world. {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 28th 2009 10:28AM Stupid 1Password...

Anyway, what I was GOING to say, is that this is a very touching story and I'm glad it worked out well for the developer.

An incredible stolen Mac story without a final chapter {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Aug 31st 2009 3:48PM Awesome (the story - not that it was stolen). Again, like others are saying, this is making me want to buy MobileMe. All I need is a second Mac...

Regardless, this is good news. I'm glad the price tag is proving it's worth to people! You wouldn't get that with [insert name of alternative].

The sordid past of Mac OS X {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Aug 28th 2009 11:15AM I remember playing Bugdom on my Dad's iMac G3 (grey) when I was younger. I don't remember HOW young but I think I must have been 10, 11 or 12. That was an awesome game.
Then I used iMac G3s (OS 9) at school with an application called "Amazing Animation". I swear I used to just think they were big toys and not proper computers!
My Dad then got an iBook G4 (with Tiger) when he moved and I used that once or twice when I visited him, which was cool. Then I used some Mac Minis and school for a while before I finally got my Alum iMac in August 07, which came with Tiger (now running Leopard). Never had an iPod until then - was waiting until I got my Mac. Now I have an iPhone 3G too. I think I'm in the anti-halo!

Ask TUAW: More migration, expanding Apple's Dictionary, syncing iPhone notes, and more {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Aug 19th 2009 1:33PM Dear TUAW,

I, too, am having worries about upgrading to Snow Leopard. My biggest question is about software licenses. I'm planning on putting all my data on an ext. hard drive and doing a clean install to flush out unused library folders, and so on, left by Apps I've uninstalled.
The only thing is, how do I get the software license keys for all the software I've bought online? I don't really want to repurchase it all. Is there a (free) app I can use that will hunt them all out for me?

Dear Auntie TUAW: How do I deal with an app due for rejection? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Aug 10th 2009 7:46PM I don't know... I don't mind it, personally. It's part of TUAW's charm. It's innocent and doesn't do any harm. It is, in essence, the very nature of TUAW.

It's the Feds! FCC quizzes Apple, AT&T and Google about Google Voice apps {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Aug 1st 2009 6:02AM I'm sure the FCC are very informed, otherwise they wouldn't be involved. The reason they're asking the companies these things is because they need to hear it from the horse's mouth. While blogs can be reputable, they're also full of nonsense and without proper sourcing (other than "My anonymous source says this" or "The app developer has told us", etc.) it's not appropriate to use them as legal evidence.

Regardless, though, I think the people who have been like "OMG I AM TOTARLLY GIVING UP TEH IPHONEZ NOW" have been just as stupid, attention-seeking and overreacting as everyone else in this whole debacle. A solution was going to arise in the end, and maybe this will be the motivation for it.

Mac 101: Get a PC printer running on a Mac. There's a driver for that! {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 31st 2009 6:25PM I have a relatively new (I think) Epson Stylus SX100 which I plugged in and couldn't play with straight away (like most printers, such as an old HP I had a while back).
While it's the most obvious answer, the CD had the drivers on, but it certainly surprised me that OS X didn't have the necessary drivers. Plenty of other drivers but not this one. Regardless, all is good now and I have a fully working printer and scanner (Ace!).

Even though it wasn't as plug-and-play as I had once assumed, it certainly was a lot easier than anything on Windows!
