Microsoft's new Zunes: officially in 80, 8, and 4GB sizes {Engadget}
Oct 3rd 2007 1:09AM Doesn't mean these will really be able to beat that OTHER player thats owning the Zune, the Sansa.
200$ buys you: a Zune 8 with 8GB and a Wi-Fi connection of middling usefulness
or
a Sansa View with 16GB and a MicroSDHC slot of slightly more usefulness.
iPod killer? Sure, everything is. Sansa killer? 'fraid not.
Cobra debuts the US's first GPS-equipped radar detector {Engadget}
Sep 19th 2007 2:18PM All Cobra's are crap crap crap crap crap.
For a decent detector at a killer price, get a Whistler Pro-78, which can be acquired for about $130. If you want something even better, get a Bel, Escort, or especially a Valentine One.
Canon firmware hack unlocks features on DIGIC II-based cameras {Engadget}
Sep 11th 2007 1:31PM I've done this with my A620, very nice mod/hack. Also, it doesn't permanently flash your camera, its just loaded dynamically, so there's practically no chance of your camera getting damaged.
Microsoft lays down smack on AutoPatcher service, users not pleased {Engadget}
Aug 31st 2007 12:24AM Wow, Microsoft has really been helping Linux gain in popularity lately. Between goodwill shredding moves such as this, the craptasticity of Vista, and the impending release of ass-whooping KDE 4, I see some great times ahead for Linux.
As for me, this is the last straw. I loved Autopatcher which was great for updating computers with only dial-up access (yes, they still exist). I am now going to make a serious effort to convert entirely to Linux, and encourage every computer owner i maintain to do the same.

Apr 21st 2007 4:52AM It is gadget news... sorta. Its certainly interesting if you're interested in the mainstream proliferation of gadgets.
And really, if you can't look past an occasional article, you're a dumbass. Plain and simple. The fact that a few people found this amusing is enough. I couldn't care less about cell phone articles, especially the Korea-only variety, but you don't see me whining about those articles.
A few of us actually live in the real world, and like to have occasional info about gadgets' effects on that world.
Texas Instruments finally gets fresh, unveils TI-Nspire calculators {Engadget}
Apr 11th 2007 10:24AM Very cool... Its about time that TI finally made some strides towards making their calculators an actual *modern* piece of hardware. I just wish they would come up with a back light of some kind, and maybe an SD slot (HP's have 'em...)
I really like the keyboard (as ugly as it may be). Finally, no need to have to hit a shift key to input letters. It took TI way to long to produce something like this, but at least its finally happening.
Spaceport America overcomes major hurdle {Engadget}
Apr 6th 2007 6:27PM There was a concerted effort in my county, Dona Ana, against the tax as well. Dona Ana is bearing by far the greatest tax load compared to Sierra and Otero, so I kinda doubt a vote of "no" in either of those two counties would be a real show-stopper.
I'm glad it passed, southern New Mexico needs something to make the region more productive.
FCC declares in-flight cellphones a dead issue for now {Engadget}
Apr 3rd 2007 11:32PM If they allow cell phones on planes, then they had better allow smoking on planes again. Both foul up the airplane "environment", but if I can light up while the person next to me is yapping their ass off, I'll be less inclined to kick their ass.
AdAge asks Gates about Hodgman to ill effect {Engadget}
Mar 16th 2007 1:44AM Im not gonna argue that UAC isnt annoying, but its a godsend compared to the crap notification/sercurity system OSX has going for it. I maintain Macs at work (wouldn't own one of the things), and one day I was assigned with installing updates to a MacBook. The stupid thing forced me to enter the admin password no less than 10 times during the install process. A 10 minute or so update took about an hour because the retarted thing just kept dumbly asking for the password over and over at 10%... 20%... 30%... and there was no way I was just gonna sit there and watch it.
I dont hate Macs, They have a lot going for them, but their UAC equivalent is not one of them. For real inspiration on how to run programs at elevated clearances, MS and Apple should look to Linux for inspiration. Secure, yet not too annoying.
Sony shows off the real PS3 controller {Engadget}
May 9th 2006 3:04AM I personally think the tilt could be very usable for driving games. And with the new L2/R2 triggers, driving games may be great with this thing.
And considering MS/Nintendo has been ripping off the dual shock since it first came out, a feature as "original" as tilt (I'm not calling the Wii controller unoriginal, I'm saying tilt is nothing new) is really not that big of a deal.
The lack of vibration kinda sucks though... although I wonder if I'll actually miss it.
I'll still be wating for a hardware backwards-compatibility device, though. The value in various PSX port hardware that I own is probably greater than a PS3.
