I suppose it's not a bad thing to have in your camera bag. The test only shows that the adapter can be used. The 5DMII has a Large JPEG burst of around 70 continuous captures, which gets written to the internal buffer and cleared to the card (it goes to unlimited if you use a UDMA CF card). How long it takes to write to the card to clear the buffer is the real bottleneck with cards (as well as the download).
Well, #4 ain't great outta 6 for something that was supposed to be both revolutionary and evolutionary. Bottom line is it's underpowered, lacks ports and for a portable has a battery that has to be factory replaced.
Believe me I'd love one but the price, lack of power and port genocide makes it just ridiculous. A macbook isn't that heavy and sokes the Air at a way less price point.
Mac minis (which I've almost considered buying) haven't been updated... since when? And Mac Pro's are far more advanced than 90% of people need, hence the popularity of the iMacs and MBP's and MB's.
So bottom line, what can the Air do that a MB can't at a fraction of the price? Fit in an interoffice memo envelope? If I don't feel like taking my 15" MBP somewhere, which is rare, I have an iPhone for email, etc.
I'm still not hearing why the Air is relative to consumers, not be a wang but sounding like one.
Seriously, does anyone even buy the Air's? Granted I am a professional photographer so I may not be in the circle of consumers that do but I have yet to see one in the "wild". I know plenty of people that have MBP's and MB's. I know alot of people that have iMac's and Mac Pro's. Everyone I know has at least 1 iPod or iPhone. I know a few that even have mini's. No one I can think of has and Air or an Apple TV. I personally have 2 PB G4'a, 1 MBP, 1 iMac, 1 G5 tower and 1 Mac Pro plus 1 Gateway tower.
I figured producers or reps might get Air's but none I know have. I love the idea behind it but it is so limiting it's painful. Same with the new MBP's, IMHO.
I wonder if this is not a case of "The Emperor has No Clothes". Did Apple invest so much into the Air and Apple TV that they just refuse to let it die or disappear? I certainly can't figure it out.
Higher capacity, faster hard drives and a freaking screen that can be calibrated.
The drives exist already. Put a freaking 500BG drive in there. Do a BTO for an additional drive in the optical slot. A 7200 boot drive w/ a 500GB storage drive? GENIUS. Even better, make a tower that doesn't weigh 60lbs.
Make a deal with Eizo or Nec already for a USABLE screen. The MBP screens are worse than the Powerbook screens on rendering colors correctly and brightness, and viewing angle. Since when does an updated line include WORSE features?
You've got the MacBook for consumers and it's cool for them, the Air for... Who would buy an Air? So make the PRO models professional already.
I'd love to have a portable machine for digital imaging that didn't force me to bring an Eizo with me on location. The MBP can't even be used to judge focus much less brightness or color balance. Even if the screen doesn't cover the Adobe 1998 colorspace, at least don't make it worse than my G4 PB. Steve Jobs, please.
I for one - one that owns 2 Powerbooks, 2 MBP's, a 20" iMac (don't even get me started on that screen), & a Dual G5 tower - am getting REALLY tired of Apple shunning the PRO consumers for the iPod/Apple TV/Touch/MacBook consumers.
Look at Apple's stock price. They've run the iPod train into the ground and the iPhone isn't going to change the mobile phone world. Their stock prices have suffered when investors realized those 2 things. And what has kept Apple in the game all these years? CORE Professional users. Not gamers, not soccer mom's, not hipsters.
APPLE GET BACK TO THE CONSUMERS THAT HAVE KEPT YOU AFLOAT ALREADY!
If I could find a PC replacement I'd switch right the eff back at this point. All I need is a good laptop screen.
This really does suck. I "guess" H2/Phase users can switch to Mamiya backs but really, the H1/H2 was the only bodies I used for the past 4 years with MF backs. Damn. I loved hassy and now they're getting all gready up in this biz. Though the H2 was a pretty overpriced fragile body with only decent glass. I hope hassy buys Phase One. The hassy backs stink
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don't want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I've done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!"
