Cambo: Up high, in the center is NOT legal.

Here's the law itself:
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/07-08/bill/sen/sb_1551-1600/sb_1567_bill_20080805_enrolled.html

...
(11) An electronic communication device affixed to the center
uppermost portion of the interior of a windshield within an area that
is not greater than 5 inches square, if the device provides either
of the following:
(A) The capability for enforcement facilities of the Department of
the California Highway Patrol to communicate with a vehicle equipped
with the device.
(B) The capability for electronic toll and traffic management on
public or private roads or facilities.

...
it could be argued that a GPS system does 'traffic management'. If it has that feature
...

(12) A portable Global Positioning System (GPS), which may be
mounted in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield
farthest removed from the driver or in a 5-inch square in the lower
corner of the windshield nearest to the driver, if the system is used
only for door-to-door navigation while the motor vehicle is being
operated and outside of an airbag deployment zone.

Perhaps via's marketing department could afford to buy a $100 boom mic or body mic. It'd make their video watchable.

Or just dub the thing over on a PC for free..

Veronica is doing it to, she posted it on her blog.

I don't understand the negativity either, this is a great way to get people who would NEVER do exercise to at least do a little bit.
In case you are confused like I was that the summary doesn't match the photo, the pic is from his previous, wii sports experiment.

The summary by engadget plus the photo makes this confusing unless you read the article.
The key words, from the article:

"The technology incorporates an innovative lens design that increases the resolution in the center of the image without narrowing the field of view. The result is true optical magnification without loss of detail."

So, it's a sort of progressive lens.

However, seems like that would distort your image in the center when you want to capture a full frame. So that's where the software processing is needed. Seems like that would decrease quality, but cell phone sensors are so bad anyway that it is probably not noticeable.
Isn't red ray, you know, CD?

that's like hyping the fact that you are using older tech.
Yeah, BPL is a scam. This will not work.

Also, it is 223mbps for the entire service, not per user.

I'll keep my DOCSIS, thanks.
Sounds like their routing software isn't up to snuff yet. That's pretty critical. All GPSes aren't the same, routing is complicated. Garmin has their algorithms down after years in the business, these guys are just getting started.

Wait for 3rd or 4th generation..
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
