"Well, they're certainly TRYING very hard to convicnce the unwashed masses that they should (and I quote) 'Give up on Vista, buy a Mac'."
That's something called marketing. "Give up on Pepsi and buy a Coke." Pretty sure that's the standard way any company gets customers.

"But you're probably right, anybody who can't afford even a basic Apple computer probably is only a figment of Apple's imagination."
Not sure exactly where you're going with that. If you don't have the money or won't spend the money to purchase a product, then you don't get the product. It's not a company's responsibility to make sure everyone gets one. Is that how you get a 90% market share - maybe not. But people will pay a premium for a convenient or tightly integrated user experience, and Apple knows that.
@mynk

I see.. so Dell can charge a premium for mediocre products in pretty cases because they're for "luxary users". Apple on the other hand is a "normal end user company" so they're clearly not comparable. Everyone taking notes? You all getting this down?
Would you believe - a shoe telegraph?
@ Kris

RUF isn't exactly in the practical car business.
Uhhhh, wouldn't the LNT4081F have been the first 40" Samsung with LED backlighting and local dimming?
It's like the perfect combination of Aston and Ferrari.
This thing is a joke. $1300??? No thanks.
240 x 400? Why can't we get some phones with real resolutions? Dell put a VGA screen in it's x50v PDA 4 years ago, so it can't be too hard. Let's get with the times here!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
