UCLA researchers create self-healing, power-generating artificial muscle {Engadget}

Mar 23rd 2008 4:44AM Except these aren't self-healing like everybody's thinking they are. They're designed such that if part of the muscle fails, the surrounding sections can isolate the damaged part and work around and without it. It is decidedly not self-healing, it's merely damage-isolating.

That in itself is still pretty damn cool, but to call it self-healing is a misstatement.

Mar 13th 2008 5:59AM Looks like *regular* Mario to me ;)

Of course, they're $700 that way....

Dymo's DiscPainter skips the labels, inks directly to disc {Engadget}

Sep 24th 2007 2:06PM Not quite. LightScribe uses a laser to etch a monochromatic image into a special coating on a disc. This just lays multicolored ink on top of the disc rather than doing anything to the disc material itself.

$130 Zunes -- $10 Woot credit mocks Apple {Engadget}

Sep 21st 2007 4:11AM Wow, you're clever!

Ohhh, wait... wouldn't an inferior price be one that's crappy, and since we're dealing with money, that would mean overcharging for it... and we all know who's guilty of that.

That said, I'd get one, except for that nasty rumor of the 2nd gen coming out soon. I shall bide my time.

Sega Homestar Pro planetarium Winter Edition {Engadget}

Sep 1st 2007 3:45AM Good, somebody else thought "Homestaw Wunnaw!" too. Phew.

Aug 24th 2007 10:23PM What, FPS gamers can't have a laser mouse, too?

HDMI-equipped Xbox 360 "Core system" shows up for pre-order {Engadget}

Aug 24th 2007 3:26PM I don't know about the Premiums, but at least on the Elite, it's got a connector that you put into the normal port as well as the HDMI cord that gives you optical out for your 5.1. I don't think MS is counting on many people having HDMI-switching 5.1 receivers, so I can see why they wouldn't see it entirely necessary to put more than stereo in - if it's feeding straight to your TV, how many TVs have 5.1?
