"The fact is, gameplay facilitates storytelling, and thereby a game about a space marine fighting an alien invasion would make little sense as an adventure, whereas a game about a futuristic archaelogist uncovering the mystery of an apocalypse would make little sense as a fast-paced shoot-em-up."
So I suppose a game about a theoretical physicist dealing with the aftermath of a failed science experiment wouldn't make a very good FPS then, would it? I dearly hope nobody fails to see the reference, but just in case... (λ)
And I'm pretty sure that the original WH40k game had very little action going on, yet we had epic battles between the valliant Space Marines, the emperor's finest, and the Tyranid infestation, scourge of all life.
Oh, and perhaps a futuristic scientist (λ) would be better suited at uncovering the backstory of a post-apocalyptic earth in FPS style...
It all boils down to how the designers make it fit. I mean, you can't say "this sort of action fits this genre" because really, gameplay and presentation *are* separate. It just depends on the style of presentation and/or gameplay that are provided.
As one final note on this, a game that completely invalidates the gameply+presentation bit would be System Shock 2 when compared to MP. It ends up being very similar to MP in many ways, yet it is also very different. Gameplay was vastly different and yet very similar: you scanned and/or collected items to pick up most of the story and it was a slower pace than most FPS games, yet it doesn't feel like MP at all because there are disjointed dissimilarities in their gameplay AND presentation. They (play/presentation) are codependent to te extent that they have some influence over each other, but they don't have huge impacts on each other. Final example: MGS.
Now, on topic: FP Zelda... Can't say I think highly of it. I mean sure, Nintendo wouldn't make it unless it worked, but still...
And as far a triforce tats go, he doesn't actually get the symbol on his hand until the power of the triforce is awakened, so keep that in mind. Also try to think how you'd have to explain it to your grandkids... But I'd go for a 1:1, tempered steel rendition of the Master Sword and Hylian Shield any day, and perhaps a real version of the Ocarina of Time. All of which I *do* have BTW, the Sword and Shield make for interesting conversation starters with guests, but I tend to attract security when I take it to cons. :P Peacebonding my ass...
Well, this rant is about long enough, so here's me, signing off!
