All, as I mentioned earlier... these are the "desktop/nettop" processors and NOT the mobile versions...

the mobile versions are not due to 2009...
Engadget you need to get your story straight... Other sites have reported the correct interpretation of the intel press release but you...

from the intel article:

"The newest member of the Atom family is designed specifically for nettops, which are affordable desktops purpose-built primarily for web surfing, email, and basic Internet usage. The dual-core Intel® Atom™ Processor 330 features a 1.6GHz processing core, 1MB of level 2 cache, an 8W TDP"

keys points:

1) for nettops, which are affordable desktops"

2) 8W TDP - the mobile version would consume way less... (for example, current Atom single core consumes 2.5 W)
Geesh Thomas Ricker... I had posted this in the comments a day ago in the Mini 9 story you guys posted yesterday...

Right now we have a "Laptop category" of computers and every manufacturer has a model and many variations out for consumers...

Why are people always complaining that the "Netbook category" is "saturated"... like every other category there are many manufacturers with many models... the netbook category is a NEW opportunity that every manufacturer wants to get in... just like any other category... This is just the beginning so all the netbooks are going to be the same yes, but as time goes on the netbook category in the future will be were the laptop category is today probably and there will be more distinguishable features on the netbook for each manufacturer...
sent email to engadget but still no news notification about how CANADA just got the mini 9 released on their online store today... Woot...
cool... free stuff... :-D
The 901 has two SSD's... a fast 4GB and slow 8GB... the point being that you have XP installed on the primary SSD (4GB) so that it runs faster... boot time of XP on a 901 is around 35 secs...

@sracer - the 701 actually uses the same type of SSD as the 901 (8GB 'slow' drive')...
Actually, does make sense to use the MLC (Slow type SSD's) as it helps keep the costs down... In comparison, an 16GB SSD (SLC - faster type) will cost you $179.00... I dont think Dell would be putting in a $179.00 SSD into their budget Netbook to sell for between $300-$400... Now that doesn't make business sense... and thats what this is about... creating enough of a profit margin for this venture into the Netbook arena to make enough business sense...

This is the very reason why Asus put a fast SSD (4GB) for the primary OS to boot/run... and then the slower SSD for storage...

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
