I totally agree. Another example is Walkman vs iPod. Sony lost the war, but now they make accessories such as dock station for iPod.

Well, let's assume 50% of all PSN users are forum-only users. There are still 10 million users left who can use PSN for free. That's way more than the XBL gold users... And I doubt there are 50% forum-only users, so 10 million is probably a conservative estimate... also don't forget that PSN was launched 4 years after XBL.

and i would say it's quite successful to generate $180 million in revenue without subscriptions...
