First off, you couldn't pay me to stand in line at 3 am in the freezing cold to save a few bucks on electronics. I dont understand why if anyone wanted one of theese items, why they wouldnt just purchase the night before or even a week before, go back to the store on Black Friday after the comotion has did down, and just return the item and repurchase at the discounted price. (don't tell me they wont let you because they will, I did it two years ago on a TV at PC Richard)
Hey, I do not post much to Engadget and I am not sure how to start a new topic so I will just tack on to the end of this one. I quote another random, annonomous engadget poster, "the future is here!....and it sucks." Thats how I feel about a device like the kindle. I just can't justify paying 359 dollars for a device that I then have to pay 10 dollars each for books when I have a library that is perfectly free right up the block. I'll buy a Kindle as soon as they give me a reasonable all you can eat plan. 9.95, 14.95, hell even 19.95 a month seems reasonable, all they would have to do is let me download a small file that was limited to my Kindle, whats the fear of allowing a subscriber to do that? I don't get it. Same thing goes with XBOX Lives video store. I love having instant access to HD video, but 5.95 to download a movie? Blockbuster mails actual disks to my house for 9.95 a month, and I get another movie when I return it to the store. I usually get 5 or 6 HD movies a month for 9.95, why can't MS give me something similar? Same with Amazon and the Kindle?
My cat would absolutely refuse to drink from her water dish. She would sit by the sink crying for someone to turn on the faucet. I did a little research and picked this up for her http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4087824 she loves it...no more crying by the sink...now if I could just get her to stop waking up at 5 am and crying by her food dish.
I really am surprised that people think that this merger would be good for the consumer. I am under on illusions that the NAB is looking out for my well being, and agree that their motives are purely self serving. That does not though change the fact that a merged XM and Sirius would have a monopoly on satellite radio. Now, I am not saying that they would have a monopoly on listening choices in my car, but they would have a monopoly on satellite radio. Just because something is not a necessity, does not mean that there should not be government regulation to protect the consumer. I currently subscribe to Sirius. Although I would welcome the addition of XM's programing such as MLB, I would not welcome it at the cost of higher subscription rates, which would be inevitable. Not to mention the new receiver I would have to buy to replace the one that I had custom installed.
wow, hostile much? So big deal, kjb is not up on his HDTV facts, apparently either are you.
"LCD is marketing, wake up, its not possible for LCD to display black and never will be, do some reading on the tech or lack of it in LCD to find out why." -godskithen
That statement is simply not true, LCD's are making improvements in black level with every generation. In fact Samsung with the LN-T4681F and the new Sony xbr's use LED lighting as opposed to CFFL to produce pictures with nearly infinite contrast levels.
"You fucking clown."
"Getting better, thats like saying "Yeah I am covered in poop but now someone has pissed on me, so its getting better""
Well, he's right, LCD is getting better. Check out CNETS reviews of the 12 top rated HDTV's on the market, 6 of those TV's are LCD.
Not to mention LCD TVs can give you a better picture in real world applications. Sure, as of now, the best LCD can not match the best plasma in a darkened test room or home theater, but compare the two TVs in you're living room where I would think the majority of them wind up. Plasma has a glaring weakness in the living room, and that weakness is glare. Even the newer Panasonics with the anti glare coating, still give off enough glare to be distracting when you have a light source such as a window in the room. This is a case where a top level LCD such as Sony's new xbrs would give you a better picture. I want to watch whatever programing I have playing on my TV, not a reflection of myself. I own an LCD and a plasma, and I am not tring to downgrade either, it just seems that people are really quick to make uninformed and nasty comments. Now its my turn "you fucking clown, keep you're ignorant comments to yourself next time, douchebag. "
I have had owned a 2nd, 3rd and 5.5 generation Ipod. About a year ago I lost my 5.5. Instead of dropping another 300+ dollars on a new Ipod, I decided to give a 99 dollar refurbished Zune a try form woot.com. My honest opinion was that I liked the Zune device very much. I found the controls on the device easy to use, and I just liked the make and fee of it much better then that of the Ipod. I also liked having the larger screen. With that being said, the Zune software is atrocious. It is slow and boated. It takes forever to open, and even longer for it to load album art. It brings my dual core Pentium with 1 gig of ram running Vista to a crawl. I realize that I do not have a cutting edge system by any means, but it is still a newer computer. On top of all that, I find the Zune software to be confusing and not very intuitive. I made a legitimate effort with Zune, the device was great but the software was just horrible.
"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
