The aesthetics of the entourage edge are kind of growing on me. However, I would prefer a more "professional" look. Hopefully in their second iteration they'll fix/add:
Longer battery life (it's meant for students it should last a complete day of note taking/reading/lectures/etc. Smaller Bezel Option to just have an e-ink only device, or a lcd only device. Optimally just use a pixel qi screen (or 2). Keep this all at a price point of about $500 and I'm sold. I figure by the end of 2010 or early 2011 this should be doable.
There isn't enough public interest in these devices. It costs money to put them on store shelves. It probably wouldn't be worth it for manufacturers, and retailers to have a device like this in the stores (yet).
I've always wanted to build a monome, but lack of spare time/resources to build and program one of these makes this an interesting alterrnative. For $200 it's also at a nice price point. I'll keep my eyes on this one.
like Draaaainage! suggested, pick up a used sony prs 500/505 reader. those can be had for about $150~200 on ebay. They have no fancy features besides being able to read books (and that's really all you want in a device that's meant to read books)
$400 is maybe pushing it for a netbook, but you have to realize that this is a tablet pc. You can't find a new commercial tablet pc for under $600 right now. Hopefully it supports pen input, and since it has an x86 processor in it you can install windows (7) on it, and possibly osx86. I'm mildly hyped for this, but lets hope they don't try to pull a bait and switch on us and sell this thing for $600.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
