Zune zooms straight past gaming? {Joystiq}

Jul 21st 2006 7:33PM "Zune is the name of the project, the brand, and the device."

That is from Engadget after they got off the phone with MS after MS confirmed the device today.

My opinion as above... should be Xune

Zune zooms straight past gaming? {Joystiq}

Jul 21st 2006 7:23PM Should be Xune and not Zune

Xune (pronounced the same as Zune) Including the "X" makes all us Xboxers happy, but still keep the non-Xboxers from associating it with gaming or Xbox.

This will also make naming a gaming handheld difficult. Will it fall in the "Zune" family or the "Xbox" family Xbox is gaming but Zune is handhelds where does it go?

I dont see a "Z" or anything to do with "Zune" in the cubey-x-thing that is their logo. All I see is a cube with an "X" in it. So why is it called a Zune?

If the name is going to be pronounced "Zune" I would just as soon have them use the X makes more sense since apparently they are about integration. A good start with that would be the name

Jul 21st 2006 7:12PM yes its been changed. that is the logo from the viral marketing site video

Zune: what we know, think we know, and don't yet know {Engadget}

Jul 21st 2006 6:23PM Here is my take.

If their motto (or theme) is "integration" they should try starting off with the name and call it a Xune (pronounced the same). It would make a whole lot more sense of their logo cause no matter how hard I try I just cant see a "Z" in there. It would tie it in (vaguely) to the Xbox but not so much that the non gamers would associate it with Xbox.

On a side note: the naming also will make naming a gaming device confusing. Will it fall in the Zune "family" or the Xbox "family". All I know is if it had been name the Xune it wouldnt really matter.

The Xbox fanboy inside me (similair to the Nintendo fanboy reaction to the Revolution/Wii fiasco) hopes that this a just viral marketing and that it will in fact be called a Xune (hence the X in the logo)

Also I don't like the new color being thrown into their X-cubey-thing

Microsoft's media player dubbed Zune {Engadget}

Jul 12th 2006 8:39PM Really a Zune? Is that the best you could do? Way to not capitalize on Xbox and just place name youself the Zune yet another faceless MP3 player from somebody other than Apple. Wow! Even Argo is a better final product name than Zune. I hope this is all a sick joke. Or that Engadgets MS source is feeding them the wrong information so that the real name will just sound amazingly cool in comparison.

Jul 6th 2006 11:04AM Glad to see everyone has condemned this thing while it is still in the rumor stage. I mean all we've gotten are a few sketch details. "a bigger screen" that could mean anything. Is it 16:9? Is this thing touchscreen? I'm not sayin MS has an ace up its sleeve, but give them a chance.

They don't have as much experience as Sony, but Sony has no idea what is going on in any of its markets right now. They are just flopping around.

Also Jeff as far as URGE goes... I admit the whole WMP11 is a little buggy at the moment but if you want software that is anywhere close to perfect, don't download betas. I already prefer WMP11 over iTunes (buggy as it is).

And regarding the "95%" of people who dont buy music through iTunes that is a gross overstatement. I will admit that Apple's video sales have not been that succesful, but their music sales do fairly well.

Jun 15th 2006 4:16PM Correct me if I am wrong but every other game site on the net says that Infinity Ward is not developing COD3. Treyarch is developing it. Activision is producing both though.

The PS3 in 2005 and now {Joystiq}

May 23rd 2006 12:31AM Heres the deal... Both Sony and MS lie... cant argue... of the two companys however I think that Sony is the worse as far as business ethics go. If a company can make itself look worse than MS in business ethics that is a problem.

To Boots,
regarding the first video... most of those werent lies... I dont know what all that stuff about the controller was... as far as the turning on in 8 second s... Bill clearly said "just press eject and put in the game and you will have the game in 8 seconds" however both videos you presented were before either xbox was turned on... Bill did not mention turning on an xbox and loading a game within 8 seconds.

Im not really sure what the 3rd video was about other than to say that the jump on the console is not significant enough... well thats to bad since the PS3 looks the same (or maybe slightly better than the 360) so that is what we are stuck with for this generation... I mean go back and look at the SNES and the N64 and the jump is obviously huge cause it incoporates 3D play that is much bigger a jump than PS1 to PS2

As far as the second video goes... if you want to run an accurate experiment you need to limit your variables... for instance comparing not only 2 different games but 2 entirely different genres of games does not prove anything. For instance if you compared GRAW on the 360 to GRAW on the PS2 then it would be a valid experiment. And to say that all games should be exactly the same quality when Obviously Oblivions quality is not in graphical power per say (though it does look quite nice for a game its size) but in its pure size.

And regarding the 1080p issue... yes you dont have to have HDMI to support 1080p however... with Hollywoods new antipiracy format for next gen movie discs anything not being put through in HDMI will be downconverted and display in 540p (basically the quality of an upconverted DVD) standard Definition is 480p

Last call: E3 predictions {Joystiq}

May 8th 2006 4:52PM Sony wont tell us the price... but they will tell us all the cool new features they "thought" of since the 360 launch

Wii will keep everyone's hands busy and arms swingin...

MS will have some suprise title/hardware (announcment of a portable that will debut in a few years?/other than H3) that will blow people away. And H3 demo will be shown
