Activation may not stop piracy for the commercial pirates or for the computer literate teenage hack, but I'm sure it educates and deters your typical sharing of software between your otherwise honest folk and the less computer literate.
The first semi-popular digital camera that I can recall was the 2 megapixel Nikon 950 and that went for $990.00 new back in 1999.

If it is against the law for a citizen to place a device like this on some ones car without their knowledge, it should also be illegal for the police unless they have a warrant.
I would use it instead of my laptop to do pretty much everything.
This is has nothing to do with Sony or any of the other Blu-ray manufacturers. This is at the retail level, perhaps indicating that they are able to get more because of higher demand. If there has been an increase at the wholesale price level it has to do with the lower value of the dollar not because manufacturers are raising prices because they won the format war.
Why not me?
It also works for some non ps1 games. For instance it works with High Stakes Vegas Strip poker.

"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
