Not sure what proof you have of this "degradation", I've been using one of the very first Samsung SSD drives for a couple of years now and its been flawless.
Yeh me to, there is no point using an SSD drive for storage, but as an OS drive these things are awesome. I have one in my HTPC at the moment and the speed increase is incredible! and that was a 1st generation Samsung drive.
I have a 32gb drive in my htpc and its a complete revolution in the speed of a computer. It is the single biggest upgrade that I have ever made to a pc which boosts performance. And this was a 1st gen drive!!
Copying files over my gbit network card seems to have increased by about 5000% :) Great work finally solving the slow copying of large files over the network.
I have just got an 32gb Samsung SSD upgrade for my home theatre pc and all I can say is these things will revolutionize the modern day PC. Applications launch instantly and no more disk thrashing at any point in windows. And the best thing is my htpc now boots in 18 seconds flat!
The entire XP based system takes up 4.7gb of space if anyone was complaining about the size of these things have a little think first.
