In and of itself this device is a pretty neat idea, almost better than biometric locks in the sense that this is more like an intercom/lock. The only downfall I could see is if that's the only thing you're going to rely on to get in and out of your house then what happens if you lose your phone or the battery dies? I suppose you can always hide a key to get in the old fashioned way!

What fun, now that's a functional product that can be put to good use!
Hmmm, I think they could have done a much better job designing this, especially at the price it's going for. With the features it comes with there's almost no point in buying it. Your PC can do a much better job!
Six years spent designing this thing...don't people have better things to do?
Hey, nobody said you can't drink while listening to your ipod...still hard to believe that an mp3 player beat out drinking for University students though.
Very cool idea, but like you say I'm sure we won't be seeing something like that on the shelf anytime soon.
The whole megapixel thing is over-rated, all you get is bigger and bigger pictures, requiring faster and larger SD cards and so on. How many people actually need to take pictures that effectively have a print size 2 to 6 times larger then they'll ever need. Most people just end up resizing their photos once they're on computer anyhow. A higher quality sensitivity would be put to better use.
There are pros and cons for both, whether you rely on a computer or on human judgement, neither are perfect!
That is a slick phone, I've gotta see if that's available in my area, probably not...
That's some nifty software, although it does sound a bit over the top.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
