Hands-on with Samsung's Instinct {Engadget Mobile}
Apr 2nd 2008 5:02PM When it comes to cell phone companies, different places have different coverage. AT&T may be great in one place and not the other. I couldn't use Srpint in my house and even though their customer service was outstanding, it didn't change the fact that their coverage was poor in my area. That and they kept charging me for roaming for OVER A YEAR. Enough was enough.

Mar 7th 2008 2:18PM "What I have seen people say is that CD/DVD drives are used so infrequently that it doesn't make sense to include one in a ultra-portable laptop but if you really need one then the Air isn't what you are looking for."
For $2000, yeah I'm looking for that. Sorry fiend, but for that price you shouldn't have to compromise.
Once again, last I heard software companies were still packaging their products on discs so I guess there are a few people who 'infrequently' use them.

Mar 7th 2008 1:19PM You know what...I totally agree. What I don't understand is everyone who says that "I don't need a CD/DVD drive, those are obsolete". Call me crazy, but every now and then I like to install stuff. Say I need to repair a program or the OS, do I really need to ISO the whole damn thing to a flash drive just to run it? No need to burn DVDs anymore? I mean, if this stuff is a thing of the past, I need to know so I can tell all my friends to just stop doing it. Oh, and since there's only 1 USB, it's not like I'm jumping up and down to unplug my mouse/keyboard/external DVD/external HD/ just to transfer data.

You were so close in that comment just now...Apple can afford to sell the few software products they make (OSX, iLife Suite) for such a low price BECAUSE the bulk of their profit comes from hardware. Look at the prices of their products: iPod, MBA, iPhone; that's the basket where they keep all their eggs.
Microsoft on the other hand makes mostly software (if you want to count the Zune, keyboards and mouse, etc as hardware). Thusly, they must charge more for what essentially makes up the core of their business. People compare the price of OSX and Vista all the time without taking notice of this but it's (almost) literally like comparing Apples to Oranges...

Feb 28th 2008 8:51AM You know what, you're right. But this could actually help me since my screen res is 1920x1200, assuming it's not like $3,000....

Feb 6th 2008 12:46PM ^ Yeah, according to you. Whose to say if Apple said, "We're going to make a touch phone screen" 3 years ago that people wouldn't have said "But we already have those, Big F'n Deal."? Just cuz you don't see a use for it doesn't mean it won't be appealing to OTHERS.
