Jul 16th 2008 4:12PM Magnets will ruin LCDs. Not as easily as CRTs, but I work at a computer store and have seen it happen to a couple demo units.
Eee PC shipments "fail expectations" for first half of 08 {Engadget}

Apple says turn-by-turn GPS coming to iPhone, copy / paste not a high priority {Engadget}
Jul 14th 2008 9:53PM Forget priorities. What the hell are they doing over there that they can't do copy/paste? They could get a freaking intern to code and test it in less than a week. It's pathetic that a company full of top-notch engineers can't bang out some code that should only take them a few hours to complete.
Lucid Logix HYDRA tech brings together any GPUs for powerful matrimony {Engadget}
Jul 14th 2008 1:03PM Yeah...above-linear? Doubtful, unless the chip itself is doing some processing too. Ten bucks says it's going to fail if they're already making claims like that.
Teclast M26 gets priced: $73 too much {Engadget}
Jul 13th 2008 4:54PM Let's see - for that money you can get a 2GB iPod Shuffle with no screen and limited codec support, or a 4GB touch-screen player supporting all kinds of codecs. What would you choose?
Maybe this knockoff isn't solidly built (as I think Nilay is trying to imply), but then again it might just be cheap because they didn't have to pay a bunch of emo kids in Cupertino to design it. If I needed a music player in addition to my iPhone I'd give it a shot.

Jul 10th 2008 2:09AM Not only do they have too many models, they keep diluting the idea of the a cheap basic PC by putting in things you don't need (XP, mobile broadband, etc) and charging more and more. I would kill for a 12GB 8.9" screen with no bezel and an atom processor (and no extra junk) for $400-450. Asus has a bad case of feature-creep.
Gateway updates bevy of laptops / desktops in one fell swoop {Engadget}
Jun 30th 2008 1:16PM Did I miss something? RAM's dirt cheap, 8GB of quality RAM will cost you less than $150 at NewEgg. A lot of people doing custom builds are doing it because heck, at that price, why not. 6GB is a lot but not exactly surprising.
Mercedes-Benz aiming to ditch petroleum by 2015? {Engadget}
Jun 29th 2008 4:55PM I don't think anyone said biodiesel was an awesome idea so I have no idea what you are arguing over daedric/kev.
The only kind of biodiesel that is even slightly beneficial is the kind made from leftover grease and such, but that's never going to power a whole fleet of cars. Electric (coming off a clean electrical grid like solar/wind/etc) or fuel cell is definitely the way of the future.
Mercedes-Benz aiming to ditch petroleum by 2015? {Engadget}
Jun 29th 2008 3:23AM Right now they are, yes (except in the diesel/biofuel area, which they've been doing well for many years). But if they truly can go petroleum free (or close to it) by 2015, other companies will be left in the dust. Toyota or Honda may be able to stay in the game, but Ford, GM, etc will be in serious trouble. Of course, this is assuming Mercedes can pull this off - the Germans just might be able to do it.
Mercedes-Benz aiming to ditch petroleum by 2015? {Engadget}
Jun 28th 2008 8:15PM Only drastic action like that is going to change anything. We've seen the transportation industry drag it's feet on alternative fuels for a couple decades now. The only way to change is to force them to by competition or much tighter emissions/efficiency standards. If Mercedes can pull this off, they'll have the market cornered with everyone else being forced to convert as quickly as they can.
