Yay Joystiq! Fighting the good fight for hardcore gamers!

Actually. No. No one likes a whinger.

I dunno why you guys have suddenly got a hard-on for the idea that 'Nintendo has abandoned hardcore gamers'. Once upon a time games were marketed to everyone. Now they tend to be marketed to white middle-class men. BORING.
Sorry but no. It's not the features, it's not even the price. It's how reliable and easy it is to use. Nokia are slightly better than most, but Apple are so far ahead of them in this respect.

Also, despite what a minority think, over-the-air music shopping isn't in high demand.

It's also bloody expensive. Folk will pay a premium if they think it's worth it, but with data-charges mixed in, this pricing looks like gouging.
People complaining about the name tend to be humourless gear snobs. Personally I think it's a great name. It shows that the company has a good sense of humour. Don't forget they already make a range of pedals called Mooger Foogers (he he he).

Complaints about the price are completely misdirected as well. This is not just a synth to make a few burbles for your next shitty trance tune, it's about performance and tweakability.

I don't hear too many people complaining about $2k guitars. If it's too expensive, they tend to buy something else. Simple. Look at the little phatty the same way; it's not just a noise box, it's an instrument. If it doesn't suit your needs; Don't buy it.

BTW, I'm not a hardware synth snob. I've quite happily used sotware synths for years, but I'm coming to find that sometimes it's nicer to have, y'know an instrument, not just some fake knobs on a screen.
Agree with the Unreal McCoy on this one. Woz might be a smart, nice guy, but he hasn't been involved in Apple for a long time.

Frankly I think he's talking shit. Like always. Firstly, the chips don't really matter. It's the DESIGN Woz. It's the lovely ID and operating system that makes Apple different.

As for spinning off the iPod division; the big sell for the iPod is how well it all works together with the OS, iTunes and the iTunes store. Spinning it off could potentially affect that.

Besides, Apple has a strong brand, and that brand goes a long way to selling iPods. Turning it into a separate division would have a negative result there.
"Media Center is so far ahead of Front Row from a functional perspective that the two products are hard to compare," I partially agree with this. WMC certainly has alot of features that Front Row lacks, but number-of-features is obviously not a good metric for comparing the products. Features no one uses or understands doesn't mean much. Personally ease of use is more important to me. Media Center is remarkable as a Windows product, in that it is actually well designed and quite easy to use. I have however heard some complaints about it being difficult to configure, but I don't have any first hand experience with that. Still, very keen to see what Apple can do here. I'm hoping to see them go for a full on PVR. Should be interesting.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
