Beetle and Jetta "specifically tasked with catering to American automotive tastes" makes me cringe. Makes me think fat, big and cushy
My dad had one of those, a 75 240D, when I was growing up. Now that was the definition of underpowered. People are so spoiled now and have this conception that if they don't get 0-60 in six seconds or under they're going to get trampled by semi-trailers on on ramps. If I could survive that when I was a teenager, anything else is a do-able speed demon.
Gotta tune the algorithm, kid's eye is looking at the wrong place
Step 1. = heat
Step 2. = ?????
step 3. = profit!!
I think the 2.5 was obsolete when it came out. It's not as efficient as comparable engines in it's displacement category. The only thing I'll give it is it's more efficient than the the 2.0 I4 from the late 90's it replaced.
Very skeptical here. How good could an americanized VW at 20K be? The 2.5 is already long-in-the-tooth now. It's gonna be the base engine in 2 years? As I see it, Americanized means big and soft, which is opposed to what VW cars are supposed to be
Have had this as a rental several times. Buzzy drivetrain, good utility, turning radius of a Suburban.
So does that mean the manual trans is going away?
When I saw this movie as a kid, I thought it was coolest car ever. And they had a replica Lotus at the mall where it was showing.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a wireless trackpad to use with my older (2.5 or so years old) C2D MacBook that's perpetually docked to my home theater. Something sleek, thin, not too small, made of high quality materials. Ideally, it would natively support all of (Snow) Leopard's multitouch inputs, and even more ideally, it would have a charging dock / base. The only problem is that I'm not sure that such a thing even exists. Think you can throw me a bone?"
