Suissa carves out Enlighten desktop PC {Engadget}

May 28th 2008 1:07AM So.....does it run Enlightenment? (Preferably E17...)

Tranquil PC announces Intel Atom-based Harmony home servers {Engadget}

May 25th 2008 9:23PM Indeed, and while you're at it, why bother with a server OS with such a high overhead? Servers don't need a flashy GUI and other bloat (minimum requirements for WHS include a video card capable of 1024x768 with 2D acceleration, and Windows Server 2003 certified hardware.) Save the license fee and go with BSD or Linux. Granted, not everyone can install and understand a true server OS, but I seriously doubt Joe User -- whose absolute greatest achievement in computing is realizing that you don't have to double-click web links -- would ever really say to himself "Gee, I think I need a server!"

Santa Fe group allergic to RF wants WiFi banned {Engadget}

May 25th 2008 2:50AM @DarkLight:

I'm not sure why you got voted down so badly, personally I'm inclined to believe you. I had a friend growing up who would distort any television or radio as he walked by, to the point of creating white noise until he was a few feet from the device. I don't see why a similar effect on a human body wouldn't be true; just as some people are more sensitive to sunlight than others, some people surely can "feel" a difference when near a broadcasting antenna.

All that being said, for the life of me I'll never understand why some folks out there have the mentality that the needs of the very few outweigh the needs of EVERYONE else. Instead of seeking a ban on all public wireless communication, which would have vast negative effects on society, why not try to come up with a way to coexist comfortably with the radiation? Hell, I'm allergic to cigarette smoke but I'll gladly leave the room rather than try to tell someone they don't have the right to smoke. It's simply not my place to force the masses to conform to my comfort levels.

May 11th 2008 11:01PM Tarvus, coming to Engadget to say "pwned" isn't a word is like walking into a bar and saying bikers suck donkey balls. You just don't do that kind of thing, man.

Falcon Northwest's portable FragBox 8500 gaming rig gets reviewed {Engadget}

Apr 27th 2008 12:07AM I'm with ZeroCorpse on this one. Other than World of Warcraft, I can't think of any of today's games worth playing* that can't be done on one of the top consoles.

*And by "worth playing" I mean something beyond the 500th generic FPS clone released this year. And it's only freaking April! Sheesh!

De Grisogono Meccanico DG all-mechanical digital watch {Engadget}

Apr 12th 2008 9:40AM Steampunk fans like me would love to be able to afford something like this. I don't even wear a watch anymore but I love the concept of this one.

Amazon Kindle is a boon to e-book market, all $0.12 of it {Engadget}

Apr 4th 2008 2:02PM Apparently you haven't used the ebook application for jailbroken iPhones. It's got a great anti-aliased serif font, very readable. Granted, it's lacking basic features such as bookmarking and annotation, but I'm sure such things are coming to those who need them. In the mean time, it's much more readable than my old Treo 650, and scrolling is natural, almost like turning a page in a paper book.
