If I were of Pacific Island descent and saw someone playing this game on the subway, I'd think about all of the real suffering in this world, such as ethnic cleansing, victims of violent crime, the mentally ill, drug addicts, the sick and dying, victims of DIRECT discrimination!

If I were of an easily-offended group of people, I would move to a place, or try to create a place where there was no freedom of self expression, including making video games that could be construed as racist or playing such games on a subway! And I definitely would continue to view all people based on their gender, sexual preferences, skin color, religion, nationality... otherwise, how else could we determine the offenses? or crimes!

So much for "content of their character"
Why not? The state does things anonymously with our money.

We know who's taking it, they just like to keep things like an Air Force One flyover secret until it nearly scares people to death!

So much for transparency!
The "Poverty or Poison" line seems like a false dichotomy. The people who work these landfills are merely trying to survive the best way they can. Since thuggery is clearly involved (the Mayor and the factory bosses), the workers might not have a choice, which for China, is just another tragedy of the "People's" government .

But after cleaning up these dumps and removing the thugs, you're still going to have health hazards, and in a free market, people should be able to take those risks, as long as they're aware of them and there are no other viable alternatives. If someone can make good money doing something like that, and are willing to risk shaving a few years off of their life so their kids don't have to grow up poor, then let them. Give them the information, and let them choose.

CBS tries to jerk a few tears out of the view by showing the kids in the dump, but if they weren't there, odds are they would be in another miserable circumstance, with little food and clean water. The free market has dramatically improved conditions in China over the last 20 years, but it obviously still has a long way to go.
I am not telling anyone not to vote. I'm questioning the motives of those who tell others to vote. Those who make the easy process of registering and remembering to vote even easier have a motive. Do they think people who care about their society are too stupid to figure it out for themselves?

Aren't we free to be cynical and apathetic, or just ignorant? Watch reality TV and tell me those people know anything about the issues affecting this country.

Do I have to vote in every single election, every issue, whether it would benefit me or not? Are you going to force me? Watch over my shoulder??

What happened to the value of freedom in this country? That should always be the top priority, no matter what.
"Everyone is a leech on society at some point in their lives"

So a child "is a leech on society"?

"And don't tell me to "chill" after offending 33% of my fellow Americans."

You falsely accused me of trying to take their vote away. I never said anything like that. I trying to explain why they might not care about voting like I do, or the minority in this country who pays the bulk for socialism.

I presented a fact to support my argument. That's offensive 33% of Americans??? Who appointed you their spokesman?

Have I accused you of anything? Ad hominem attacks have become the norm for political discourse in this country, and it's partly to blame why we're in the mess that we're in. Make arguments, not attacks.
Michael, I'm not trying to disenfranchise anyone. Stop being
intellectually dishonest and casting aspirtions. I'm trying to stop
politicians from benefitting from one group of people who pay very
little and get a lot in return, at the expense of the taxpayer. It's
abuse of power. Smaller government is the answer. Not more Robinhood
philosophy.

Would you like it if the majority voted to only have people named Michael pay taxes? I don't think so.

I still believe in a progressive tax structure, but I'm arguing that it's not always a good thing if the majority gets to place all of the burden on the minority. And I'd also argue that wealth redistribution policies are often wealth destruction policies, since this country has demonstrated that wealth is not fixed, and a rising tide has lifted all boats for the most part, when compared to other countries.
Alex, chill. What we are witnessing is growing resentment between the classes because certain people work hard for every dollar they earn while others depend more on their parents and the government and have no idea that the average taxpayer works for the governent until May, in terms of tax obligation. I think it was Winston Churchill who said "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried". The point is that one group of people get to tell another that they have to pay for the things they need and want, and there's little they can do about it. It's tyrrany of the majority. Socialism, funded by the minority.
"OK, point one, where I live taxpayers get to vote every year. Sometimes 2x in a year."

Presidents get to affect tax policy more than your local superintendent.

"Point two, what "big chunk" of the population are you talking about? "

The 32% of workers in this country don't have to pay federal income tax. http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/23248.html

"The age of majority in this country is eighteen" Wha?
Regardlessly?

There is no such thing as misinformed. There are just suckers. Change. Hope. Real Change. Real Hope. Blah blah blah

"It's trying to get people involved in society, more hopeful and engaged"

When 60% of new voters vote one way, do you really think that's their ultimate goal? If so, I got a bridge to sell you.
If there's one thing that gets my blood boiling it's people telling other people to vote. Be it celebrities, bloggers, Google, MTV, ACORN... it's like we're all a bunch of idiots who can't figure out we live in a democracy.

What is the point of "watering down" the vote with people who don't really care that much? Unless you think the person who might forget to vote is actually more inclined to vote the way you do, or you believe that voting magically makes someone a "good citizen" that will improve society, there really is no point to tell others to vote.

All you have to do to get people to vote is to have them look at their own tax return, which a big chunk of the population doesn't have to worry about. Maybe there's a correlation between those who don't vote and those who don't pay taxes. The taxpayer has to pay every year and only gets to vote every four... Think about that. Then think how groups like Rock-the-Vote may be offensive to taxpayers.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a wireless trackpad to use with my older (2.5 or so years old) C2D MacBook that's perpetually docked to my home theater. Something sleek, thin, not too small, made of high quality materials. Ideally, it would natively support all of (Snow) Leopard's multitouch inputs, and even more ideally, it would have a charging dock / base. The only problem is that I'm not sure that such a thing even exists. Think you can throw me a bone?"
