@incogneato

I'm with you. I've got gigs of material that I need a good reader for. No battery-draining wireless required.

Engadget has obligations, of course, to hammer away for the most tech per product, but it doesn't mean that real people want it.
Lots of times in life I would gladly give up color for a bunch more hours of juice. Heck, I bet 85% of the time I don't use color on my netbook.
CFL color can be very good, actually. Sounds like you haven't used one in quite some time.
It's too bad the new Thinkpads are junk compared to the Tankpads of old. My tablet has been nothing but problems.
Yes, I have a netbook. No, it is not instant-on, nor do I think Windows sleep mode is good enough.

It's a distinction that is hard to define, I admit, but I just wish my computers behaved like my smartphone. On when I want it, off when I want it. OS on ROM, not on disk. Snappy in every way, without having to rely on skating and clicking on a trackpad six times to check an email.
I know no one ever agrees with me on this, but I'd love a netbook with a mobile instant-on OS. I was even considering a Foleo!
"...but techies like us are sick and tired of dabbling with the same underpowered chips and the same lackluster capabilities."

I'm all for more grunt for my buck, but I'm not sure I ever really pushed the N280 to it's max.

Internet, email office documents... I just use it for the basics. Am I doing something wrong? I feel like I'm a techie, too.
I personally do not see myself in the market for a netbook without a keyboard.
Heh, I don't even own a TV. I just download everything I need.

Well, except football.
Umm... okay. I was thinking it seemed a bizarre market for a tire company.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a wireless trackpad to use with my older (2.5 or so years old) C2D MacBook that's perpetually docked to my home theater. Something sleek, thin, not too small, made of high quality materials. Ideally, it would natively support all of (Snow) Leopard's multitouch inputs, and even more ideally, it would have a charging dock / base. The only problem is that I'm not sure that such a thing even exists. Think you can throw me a bone?"
