PS- If you want to launch a campaign against something how about ads that show up while watching TV at the base of the screen. Now only are we browbeaten with 3-4 minute commercials now we get them while watching the show. That is a war worth waging.

What the hell is everyone talking about? Pressing 1 on Sprint bypasses it. Pressing # on T Mobile bypasses it. Not sure about V or ATT. This seems to be a major nonissue. Oh I'm sorry this article is fore t@rds who can't use their brain to figure things like this out.....carry on. There should be a new tag for Engadget: Braindead_masses.

Umm this isn't some glitch on the device. And as far as I know I've not heard of anyone else loosing their books or notes due to a glitch. This had NOTHING to do with new tech and everything to do with Amazon being a complete and total doucheb@g.

I've got $100 that he will be arrested before he hits 18.

And a $50 that he will have a kill before he's 25..All it will take is the first time he's at a bar while he's in collage and the bartender cuts him off even after he drops a $100 on him.

Now that said. Every generation gets more and more tech. And the previous always thinks they are being spoiled. Take standard TV's as an example. 25 years ago it was uncommon to have a TV in every room...actually to a certain extent it still is....but now people take it for granted that a kid is going to have something in their room. While this is MASSIVELY overkill its still just another step. I wonder if somewhere down the road parents are going to start telling their kids no you don't need that gadget or toy. Go outside and have fun....oh and take your $300 smartphone with you.

That standard was dropped A LONG time ago. Its like compairing a standard RS-232 and USB and saying that RS-232 is still relivant. Yes it is a standard, but pretty much a dead one.
The last system that I saw that did a 12.5 was a old Thinkpad. Tosh, Gateway, Sony, Dell, and yes even Apple has been using the 9.5 standard for the better part of a decade which makes it the defacto standard for the industry.
Actually I'd love to know what laptops can still handle a 12.5 form factor. The only ones that remotely come to mind are Dell's larger XPS systems where you can take off the base panel and screw in a hard drive from the bottom, but even then I'm not 100% certain.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.

"I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to camera stuff. My wife loves to take pictures, though. So much so that she literally wore out her first point and shoot camera, and the Kodak Z712 I bought for her less than two years ago is starting to act up as well. To compound the matter, we are expecting our first born sometime next year. I fear the Kodak just isn't going to cut it any longer. What would be the best starter DSLR to get? She hates missing photo opportunities due to camera 'lag' so speed would definitely be at the top of the list. Photo quality and features would be next. Price should be no more than $800. I'm not interested in video capabilities."
