@NerdUno

Hmm dont forget 1.1! Personally I dont have an issue with the firmware builds. Much in the same way that you can still buy an iphone with FW v2.0 etc on. Oh and which vendors are locking up the code?! there are custom UI's that are proprietary they can lock that code down have a look at Cyanogen ROMs and you will see a whole new picture of Android.
So so close but no cigar....

90% of the things on this phone is what id want but there are some fundamental flaws...

As others have stated the storage is via MicroSD, ok thats fine for media, but unless the phone is rooted and appstosd used your going to have to live with the 512mb on board :(

Wish that they had done 16/32Gb on board and then had a micro sd slot.

And why oh why no snapdragon...this phone was marketed as being everything the iphone wasnt. In order to pull that one off you cant just make something with similar specs you need to pummel it!
Erm... What about the story from the UK.

The one that was reported on the Daily Source Code, Adam Currys podcast...

Where the phone blew up and set fire to the carpet. And possibly was in part responsible for Nokia recalling all those batteries last year.

Oh and that guys whos ipod nano popped in his pocket whilst he was working in an airport.

Just thought that i would mention it.
Acer isnt joining them! This is where they have been for a good long time outside of the US. (end of me fussing)

Acers have long been at the bottom of the pile as far as price is concerned, its still the cheapest 'new' laptop that you can buy on amazon.co.uk and they do have competitive specs on them. Build quality is improving the older models aspire 1300/1500 were shocking.The new gem stones models are better.

However I think that the post might be missing the point here... yes you might be able to buy a 15.4" notebook for an extra $50/100, but your not getting the light weight small form factor. Finally at a price point that most people can afford/justify.
Sure ok.... yeah its only 7lbs...it fits nicely in my... Oh yeah i forgot its 2foot long!

Im thinking that they are going down the same route as the EEE when they talk about a 19" model the 22" cloudbook will most probably be a desktop unit otherwise they wont be able to keep the costs down, possibly an all in one, monitor and CPU base integrated.
Ugly.
it has to be the most unimaginative design ive ever seen... It like any phone from 5 years ago with the buttons ripped off and the screen pulled down. At least apple/LG has the awareness of the market place to understand that you have to make these thing look good. After all half the reason that these things are going to be bought is to show off to people, and with this phone I would be hesitant to do so.
@Rick Wilson,

You maybe right about some external burners needing 1000ma however there are a couple on the market that draw only 500ma, although they have heavily reduced burning speeds, and are dog slow.

LG GSA-E50N Slimline USB This requires 2USB connections to run at full speed, however its only £43.00, approx $80.00. This I can highly recommend, ive bought several for various people and use one myself on a regular basis, its a great buy.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"My father-in-law is heading back to school in the spring and wants a laptop for Christmas. The only catch is their budget is around $400 and he does not want a netbook. He's not very "tech savvy" at all and doesn't need a hoss of a machine (not that $400 could get you one). We would like to get it for him as soon as possible and would love some input."
