How can a US-only product EVER sell more than a product which is selling for years worldwide?
Who wants a Zune when everybody else has an iPod, when there are so many peripherals? Feature-wise Apple says "less is more" and as we can see, the iPod sells better than a small cheap iriver flash player with Radio, Recording and Microphone built-in. The iTunes Store is available in many countries, the Zune Marketplace is US only.
So this means that it's clearly the combination of features, price and availability makes the money.
Asus Support sucks, a german guy waited a year 'till he his bad optical drive fixed. Obviously NOT an Eee but a very expensive Asus Notebook, was about 2000$.
The problem was, that Asus didn't know which drive frame his notebook needed and it took that long to find out and mount it. So it's not the dumb staff but poor design!
c't (a german magazine) reviews notebook service every 2 years or so, Asus didn't make it to the top.
Even this phone is really great, I hope Nokia didn't forget the software. I mean both the OS and the PC Suite. Both made me mad the days I had my 6110 Navigator,E61, 6270, N-Gage QD and the 7210...
That's really a point where Apple surprised me. I had my iPod and my Navigator and replaced both with an iPhone 3G, I synced it with iTunes and bang! all my recent Podcasts, my Music, Videos, Photos, Contacts and my Calendar where there! Using MobileMe I even don't have to sync anymore! Also a plus is the dock connector with all those compatible accessories, speakers etc.
I hope Nokia improves it's Mac-Support and make their PC Suite less bloatware and concentrate on useful addons.
Granted if I was a Windows-User I wouldn't mind that much, but more important than a good hardware is it's software. Because that's what decides if the device is easy to use and funny or ugly and annoying if it's useful or if it's crap.
I'm wondering how they did this. The OQO has a VIA C7-M and AFAIK the FPU of that one isn't compatible. I would install OS X on my easynote either if I could
I think the most complicated thing is to write a program for Linux, because there's not that Linux! Every Distribution has it's own managing tool and sometimes even a whole different folder structure, not to speak about dependencies!
HFS(+) may be a crap, but it works. Where a linux package doesn't likely if it's not in a repository of the distribution.
I think Linux has it's marketplace in the mobile and server industry, where Apple focuses in the desktop maket. I'm sitting at a table with a PC (Windows), NIT (Linux) and Notebook (Mac OS X).
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I love my little computing companion but I often find myself missing a full sized keyboard. I have been looking at several of these portable and flexible keyboards, but I can't seem to make up my mind about which I should buy. I don't want the keyboard to be overly expensive, but I want it to be good quality. Also, how difficult is it to type on these keyboards? Thanks!"
