I'm pretty sure the it's because CDMA is used more than either of those in China and Korea.
You're right, it does cause jealousy.........so shiny........
I believe these are great idea for portable secondary machines. Save the HDD for desktops. Do think that these are growing too fast too expensive.
I'm not an owner (of any apple products for that matter) but this is what I would change:

1) 2 USB ports
2) Smaller Hard Drive options: Maybe a 40-60g HHD or a 32 SSD, its a secondary machine after all.
3) Make the solid state drive cheaper: If you want to make something usable, make it affordable.
4) Make it smaller: Probably not much need for the size of keyboard or screen
5) Cut the price down to 3/4: Yes, the new ideas are a nice thought but not $1000 worth, especially for a secondary system.
6) Some sort of optical drive: I understand the software idea but not everyone is going to embrace it.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
