Hate to break it to ya, but it won't be in a couple of weeks, it's already out.

...OR...

Considering that Intel hardware does power current Apple setups, who's to say that this won't be running on future Apple computers, basically Intel engineering and writing drivers for OS X...

Come on now, was this really that big of a deal?
OMG!! I think this is the first compaq EVER to not look ugly...now well see how emachines decides to retort.
NICE!!!

Please, -->>PICK ME
man, you guys should stop by a best buy and actually see this thing in real life. Not only is it EXTREMELY inyourfacewowitsonFIRE..., but its like 4 inches or so thick and requires a custom built safe-messenger bag to carry it around. Even funnier, the display was stolen at one best buy, right off the shelf (WTF was every employee doing that day that they didn't see someone walking around with a GIANT, RED< FLAME-COVERED lapbox.....baffles the mind)
yeah, the original g50 has been selling at best buy since near the end of summer...
this is just a refresh.

the originals were G50V laptops, current ones are G50Vt

also, as noted below, the one at best buy has a 9800m gs with 1gb dedicated ddr3...for the same price.
thats a hell of a gpu in there. also comes with the p8400, 320gb hdd (specs say 7200rpm, but im not entirely sure) and 4 gb ddr2

also, most people dont know this but these laptops have a second hdd bay built and and the bios supports raid 1/raid 0 when a second hdd is detected. for 1249 USD this is a great laptop.

only warning: i had the g50v, and that got VERY hot, so i wouldn't use it as a "lap"top, more like a mobile desktop.
heres the new one : http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050279&st=asus&lp=4&type=product&cp=1&id=1218012519873
old one is still available at stores for same price (for now) but only has a 1.8GHz, 667 fsb processor (forgot model number) + a 9600 gpu

the G50Vt is a GREAT laptop for the price, just try to match specs with any other brand and dream for this price.
@Malweran
laptops and desktops aren't the same. a 9600 gt in a laptop is similar to a 9500 gt desktop card (or slightly lower). also,processor speeds need to be compared not just with clock speeds, but cache sizes, fsb, as well as the fact that most laptop processor run on a tdp of about 35 (for c2d) and desktop processors run from 65-125 and up. if your desktop plays this at max at 1280x1024, the laptop definitely won't be close to that. the cpu makes a large difference in crysis, due to heavy physics and AI (especially at max settings). the only thing the hdd will affect is the load times of the levels/game. i had an asus g50v with a 9700m gt and it played crysis, but nowhere near the amx settings. a 9600 gt desktop is similar in performance to a 9800m gts/gtx mobile.

also, take into account that when on battery life, gpu and cpu settings are normally much lower and cause games to run much lower as well. putting settings on max cause battery life to reduce to almost nothing

but, overall, yes, it can play crysis, at very low settings.
he was, of course, writing for the illiterate out there that try to read engadget. or maybe he was referring to his own reading speed. in either case... nvm, 30 seconds is a little overvoard. lol
actually, the current gateway FX series have had these gpus in them for over a month now. weve had them at best buy and at first they were OEM (no brand markings at all) cards installed, but now they are all EVGA.
the funny thing, though, is that the ps3 and 360 both use 2.5" hdds, but you cuold just buy a 200GB drive off of newegg for $99 cheapest and swap it in the ps3, and 120GB is almost double the price for 360, even though all the hdds use sata interfaces...kinda hard to justify all that money for a propietary enclosure is you ask me
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I commonly need to boot a system from an external disc and take a snapshot of the host system. I also then need to burn a copy of the image to a DVD. While I can do it with two separate external devices, and two power supplies, and two I/O cables, it'd be nice to find a small dual-drive enclosure. It would need to have USB, eSATA, and FireWire. Either slim-line or half-height bay for the optical burner would be fine, and space for either a 2.5- or 3.5-inch hard disc. Any ideas?"
