Doing the math on its dimensions and its 6mm dot pitch, it looks like this thing only has a resolution of 640x480 or less. It would probably take six of them (3x2) to render an HD image. (a 36 foot or so HD image... In 3D... Hmm... Anyone in the billboard business?)
So, to achieve both demos at once, GT5 driven Quad HD at 240 FPS, it would take 16 PS3's and a 240 FPS 4096 x 2160 FED display that hasn't been made yet.
Perhaps by the time they make that display, it will only require 4 PS4s to maximally drive it.
Maybe Sony will surprise us and do it with just one. ;-)
16 PS3s have already been used together with Linux and a Gigabit switch to make 200 Gigaflop supercomputers. Such a PS5 would be a protein folding monster... ;-)
I happen to own 3 PS3's. I updated my 60gb and both 40gb units to 2.40 without incident when I saw the original notice here. I pinged my son and my brother to do the same with theirs. None bricked yet; All of them presently folding proteins happily...
I have had one of these for a couple months now, and it's just been fantastic. All inputs, including my PS3 are automatically upscaled to 2560x1600 in real time, I detect no input lag or light leakages, and the included 8 speaker bar gives great sound.
Heavy sleepers do have the option of plugging a powered set of speakers into its headphone jack. $20 will get you a pretty loud set of Logitech speakers made for the Sony PSP that will plug right in. To wake the neighbors, run a line to your stereo... ;-)
A Chumby is a $179.95 wireless, touch screen, Linux computer with Stereo speakers, built in microphone, a headphone jack, USB 2.0 Ports, a squeeze sensor, and a 3 axis accelerometer for motion sensing.
It's built around a 350 MHz ARM controller with 64 MB of 32 bit SDR SDRAM running at 117 MHz bus speed and has a 64 MB NAND FLASH ROM. The Touchscreen is a 320x240 3.5" TFT LCD with 3-state LED backlighting. The wireless 802.11g connectivity is via a USB dongle plugged into the main board internally.
It is "Open" and hackable, both hardware and software. It runs Flash Widgets (about 500 of them so far) and functions as an Alarm Clock, Timer, Picture Frame (Flickr, etc), Internet Radio, RSS Feed Display, Game Playing Toy, Stock Ticker, News Feed, Email Reader, YouTube and other Video and Music Playing, MySpace/FaceBook Connected, eBay Tracking Internet Appliance with automatic OS and Firmware update capabilities. (That's the very short list...)
I love my Chumby, and unlike most of my other gadgets, it just keeps getting better, as cooler and cooler stuff gets written for it.
"I have a MacBook Pro and an Xbox 360 and I would like to get a 20- to 24-inch display that will support both devices. The speakers should be inbuilt, or there should be an aux out on the display to hook up external speakers. Help! Please!"
