In Snow Leopard, windows can now minimize down into their respective dock icons. But I very rarely minimize a window. Exposé and Spaces are the right way to manage your windows.

And as for having programs open with no windows running, what do you think your system tray is doing? I much prefer the separation of program from window. There are certain programs that run 24/7 on my computer, such as Thunderbird and Firefox, Adium, NetNewsWire (rss). I don't need their windows to be open until I want to activate their windows, but I do want the programs to be running all the time so they can continue to update themselves, or in the case of Firefox, so I don't have to wait for the program to boot up every time I want to open something in my browser.

On Windows, you're up to the mercy of the programmers for each application. Will they include the ability to run in the system tray? Maybe. If not, then you have no choice but to open the program each time.

The Windows 7 taskbar comes much closer to reproducing that kind of functionality with being able to pin programs to the taskbar and interact with them via context menu like you can with the OS X dock. Definitely a smart move.
It's not a question of the difficulty of programming copy/paste, it's completely reworking the UI; you're adding two more gestures. You'd need to do something like "hold with one finger, tap with another" for copy and "hold with one finger, tap with two others" for paste. And it gets even more complicated for copying text from something where like a website: how exactly are you supposed to highlight the text? Hold with two fingers and slide another to select?

My point is, it's not as simple to implement copy/paste on a touch based system as one might think.

I'm not sure why you have to be such a dick. You should really calm down.

The guy said he lost faith in the program. You said you agreed to a certain extent. End of story.

Not really, it's just you're bringing up issues that were discussed a year ago. Issues that are pretty much irrelevant at this point.
Trying to compare supporting generic Java apps to a fully integrated true software platform and store is ridiculous. Why anyone would attempt to draw this comparison to make an argument is beyond me, and speaks volumes about the limits of the author's technical knowledge.
It's Apple and Cisco. Hard to go wrong on a collaboration like that.
"x-box (old one, not 360) controllers had this one."

Actually, that was a breakaway cable that worked a little different. Instead of being magnetic, it just had a weaker physical connection than the point where the cable plugged into the system. Similar concept, though.

The concept wouldn't work with USB not only because it would be too easy to knock a cable free during data transfer, possibly rendering the drive useless. Sure it might be safer than the drive and/or computer crashing to the ground, but the frequency of my knocking my MagSafe connector loose is far less than that of knocking my computer onto the ground by tripping over a USB cable. Besides, either all USB cables would need to adopt this new standard, or you would need a special cable/adapter for each usb cable you plan to use. I just don't see this being practical.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
