Uhm, any reason other than performance not to use these in regular laptops? Looks like sata/zif to me.
I'm sure you're right. But the picture says "INTEL DESKTOP BOARD". Might be something like a refined i7 skulltrail system.
I'd be willing to bet that's a macro shot of the top of a fruit cake, and what you see as "plastic" is a gelatinous sugar syrup coating.

More to the point, this is absolutely awesome! I'd be willing to settle for a 1080p netbook, even if this technology's potential is much greater.
Never knew Cameroon and Kenya were two of the largest apple markets.
Mmm.. I've heard something to that effect aswell, but ECS is pretty much an unknown brand to me. Don't think I've ever seen any ECS-branded hardware prior to this. Figured them to be just another OEM manufacturer trying to make a name for themselves.

Perhaps best to not jump the gun on this one once it's released then, and wait for the consumer verdicts and the like to trickle in.
This is definitely the looker among the netbook crowd. But it'd be nice with at least a guesstimate as far as price and release date is concerned. Not sure I'll be able to hold out much longer.
It's just the iMon OEM VFD in a tacky enclosure. Exact same remote and all as the one I got with my Thermaltake HTPC case. Wonder if it relays the signals back by IR or if it's radio.
Ehh.. that was in response to Raj's comment.
Yeah, you pretty much missed the most obvious point with the whole netbook ultra-portable market. They're meant to be small and lightweight, not powerful and able to handle any media known to man.

You might just aswell ask why they haven't put in a couple of raid:ed 7200rpm drives.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"All of these new nettops have me intrigued. I'm looking for a small, quiet and cheap PC to replace my aging tower in my home office, and all it really needs to do is load Microsoft Office, check email and surf the web. Is there a particular nettop that's better (or a better value) than another? I know it's a rather new segment, but hopefully someone has taken a chance on one already. Thanks!"
