Editorial: Hey, AT&T -- drop lawsuits, not calls {Engadget}
Nov 13th 2009 9:26PM realistically, nobody here should care about which cell service someone else prefers, but something about the Verizon nut jobs creep me out. You guys are like a freaking cult. So I gotta add my two cents here.
I agree with the high ranked poster above that switched to AT&T. It may suck for certain areas, but I get fantastic coverage in the capital region of upstate NY. Every time I check my phone with a Verizon user near me, we have similar signal strength. Only when I'm in seriously rural areas will I get a lapse in coverage, but even then I can manage to make and keep calls. So I guess, in short, sucks for you guys in the city, AT&T is fantastic for me around where I live and where I work.
No, this quote: "AT&T has sparsely detailed its LTE plans and isn't expected to go live with any markets until 2011 at the earliest." I think what is most important here is that AT&T plans to double their spectrum... wouldn't that be the most important factor in giving voice and data more room to breathe? It may slightly improve speeds of the current technology, but doubling the spectrum for AT&T would rid the congested areas of the incredibly high dropped call rate. Wouldn't do much for rural areas lacking coverage, but meh. Verizon, on the other hand, can't afford more spectrum, as EVDO already requires a buttfull to operate.
In my humble opinion, defending a cellular carrier is like trying to view the positive personality features of Hitler, but I do view AT&T as the lesser of the two evils. Sprint is awesome for pretty much leading the price wars, and T-Mobile is awesome for saying no to the CIA. Neither Verizon or AT&T are awesome. But I didn't know any of this crap years ago when I switched, and as much as I hate Apple and want freedom from the iPhone, I have yet to see a better mobile web experience, and that's my #1 feature in a cellphone right now. I'm gonna click Add Comment before I go on a tangent on mobile OS's and emerging cellphone hardware.

Review: New Super Mario Bros. Wii {Joystiq}
Nov 13th 2009 8:56PM disappointed but not surprised that Shigeru's claims of an apparent difficulty turning out lackluster. They don't even bother putting in more difficult optional paths?? Sigh.

Nov 13th 2009 8:55PM look, I can understand complaining about a shooter with bad internet support, but if you can't even find anybody to play a Mario game with you, ya might want to look into euthanasia.
Dell Mini 3i unboxed in China, capacitive stylus included {Engadget}
Nov 13th 2009 12:55PM No, but they respond to touches much less accurately. Resistives need a certain amout of pressure and require smaller area of input for accuracy. You can mash your whoke thumb on a capacitive or lightly touch the surface and getthe same response. Resistives are picky for finger input, even when the UI is designed for it.
What I mean, is that I'd rather poke my eyes out with a stylus than try to type with an on-screen keyboard on a resistive device. But, I'd rather cut myself and use the blood as paint than try to use a capacitive device for fine input, like in a paint program, or for handwriting.
I think a pressure sensitive, accurate stylus for capacitive screens would marry the best features of each screen tech into the perfect touch screen interface. That's all.

Nov 13th 2009 10:27AM The end of the stylus looks kind of big. I wish the pic of the contents of the box showed the stylus for a size comparison. It won't be that much more useful if it's the size of a small finger!
But I see this as a step forward for capacitive. Does anybody know if they can make capacitive styli that have more of a point at the end, or does the screen just require more surface area for input?
Once we get the styli smaller and Wacom makes a pressure sensitive version, capacitive will finally hands-down win. Capacitive works well for finger use, bu there are a few things that will always be better with a stylus, so I can't wait until they push the technology. The biggest hurdle is going to be convincing America that it's the right thing to do, because it's apparent that finger based input is by far the more popular form.

Nov 13th 2009 10:22AM Capacitive screens never need a stylus dude. The pen is for writing, something that will never be good with your finger alone, no matter what kind of touch screen it is.
