Lenovo's Ideapad U110 "coming soon" to the US {Engadget}

Apr 16th 2008 2:57AM I've not read such a xenophobic rant for a while - i'm assuming your one of the 90% of americans who don't have a passport. I'm not sure if your comments on spyware are simply for shock value or if you really are that stupid. Try and boycott everything from China - I dare you.

Anyway.......back to the post. I've not seen a consumer laptop look so good for a while, i'd never own anything with a glossy screen personally but it does look good (especially when compared with Lenovo 3000 range).

European Commission gives approval to in-flight calling over Europe {Engadget}

Apr 7th 2008 9:41AM I'm sorry but I simply dont get your point - they are allowed to use mobile phones on planes NOT bombs, being able to use a phone on a plane is not a security concern - its a sanity concern.

We are fighting against an evil more great than terrorism - obnoxious people who want to loudly exclaim "i'm on a plane" to everyone they know - they must be stopped!

European Commission gives approval to in-flight calling over Europe {Engadget}

Apr 7th 2008 9:13AM This is fantastic - I really look forward to being able to both phone and listen to people of the phone while i'm on a plane, those 4 hours a week I generally spend on planes are just so quiet and boring. Now if only they would get more crying children on the planes and give compulsory cavity searches in security then I think flying would be almost perfect.

Toshiba redesigns four Satellite families, intros Sleep-and-Charge USB ports {Engadget}

Apr 1st 2008 12:05PM ThinkPads have this facility already too.

Dell's leaked Latitude E6000 and E5000-series of laptops pack GPS, DisplayPort, WWAN, UWB and much more {Engadget}

Mar 22nd 2008 2:43PM AMT 3.0 on a laptop - thats impressive for a desktop only standard.

Any way, still liking the new industrial design but lets call a spade a spade, the good design is simply copying the ThinkPad design which is why it looks so good.

Up close with Dell's Latitude E4300 and E4200 ultra-portables with DisplayPort {Engadget}

Mar 21st 2008 10:01AM Wow, this system is looking good (with the exception of that silver bit at the back), I will only use ThinkPads but I get a Dell every now and again for comparison and the Latitudes are really catching up to the ThinkPads in design terms and this looks like another good step, however, the pointing stick buttons look worse that ever - Dell really need to sort it out as it is the main thing that makes the systems unusable for TrackPoint users - theres no point having a pointing stick if its not going to be implemented properly

Lenovo X300 ad takes the MacBook Air head-on {Engadget}

Mar 20th 2008 4:41PM One of the X300 USB ports should not be required for a USB mouse, learn to use the TrackPoint properly and you will never require a mouse while out and about - only use a touchpad then the majority of people will need a mouse - the trackpoint is just so far superior to the touchpad if you can use it well.

Lenovo X300 ad takes the MacBook Air head-on {Engadget}

Mar 20th 2008 3:07PM erm..... who needs 3 USB ports and an optical drive? lots of people thats who, some of us dont like switching between multiple machines so for a system to be your main system it would have to have these things, its not the same as an FDD as mostly those were used for backups or actual technican tasks at the time - people use optical drives much more often.

Plus the X300 seems to meet all your needs - its small form factor, has more wireless options than the air (3G, UWB, GPS and WIFI) and has a better screen than the MBA (higher resolution)

Lenovo X300 ad takes the MacBook Air head-on {Engadget}

Mar 20th 2008 3:01PM True, but imho a decent screen resolution, better keyboard and a trackpoint mean that i'll be way faster when operating it which should compensate a little for any MHz performance loss and you can have 4GB RAM (in Dual Channel mode too) with the X300 and only 2GB with the MBA which will also have an impact

Intel's Silverthorn becomes the Atom, Menlow the Centrino Atom {Engadget}

Mar 3rd 2008 6:09AM I am a complete geek - but I dont think its a requirement to know Centrino etc given the marketing Intel put into their new brands. While Pentium/2/3/4 was more straightforward (as was judging by megahertz rating) - I dont think it was necessarily better, expecially when it only used to refer to the CPU and not the package (chipset/wireless) that it does now. You'd be surprised at how many consumers know the terms, everyone wants Centrino but they dont necessarily know what it actually means.
