"If you're dying to look at a 3-D game right now, Engadget also captured a video of Wipeout HD being played in 3-D, which you can see above. For some reason, the 3-D effect doesn't come through when viewed in an embedded video recording -- even with the glasses in front of the lens. Sony really needs to work on that."

Are you joking? or just clueless?
"Regula Oblique: Fanboy much? You can buy HD-DVDs and watch them on your Xbox as many times as you want..."

Yeah, cause we all know the xbox 360 core/premium ship with the HD-DVD included...

Fanboys these days are fucking annoying.
Look, we get it:
YOU DON'T WANT A PS3. AND NO, WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK.

As far as the 360 service goes, it's definity something nice, i just wish MS supported USB hardrives at least (and network HD's if possible), that and that studios allowed you to keep the movies, not just rent them for nearly 6 bucks, that's just too expensive to lose the movie right away.
With that said, i think sony should have a comparable service sooner rather than later, i mean. It's nice that it plays blu-rays and all, but i'm just too much of an "on-demand" guy these days to keep going to check out releases to the store.
Hard drives shouldn't be an issue on the PS3. (you can add a bigger HD yourself, or you can just connect an extremley huge USB HD)

The only movie i've rented so far on live is V for Vendetta, just wish i still had it.. cause i just sold my projector that had very poor contrast and bought a new one that has very good ANSI CR, the movie is very dark and would look a lot better on this new one i just got... if only WB would've let me own it, i would've paid a full 20 bux.

on a side not, can you belive you can buy a 720p DLP for 900 bucks these days? amazing shit.

So, while this is a nice feature. i REALLY hope that movie studios sell movies and not just rent them.
111:

Except this "Mclaren" is being sold to you at 500 or 600 bucks, mind you the R&D that went into some of the components is more cash than the R&D for a Mclaren.
And i'm pretty sure MClarens aren't being sold at a loss, sony is SUBSDIZING the PS3, just like it did with the PS2 at the start, and like MS did with their consoles.
See, i wouldn't have a beef with the Wii if it was sold for around 100 bucks, then it'd be cheaper than a PS2, and offer better performance along with a new controler to boot.
It's not like nintendo isn't going to make money with their games, this is how console manufacturers deal with the fact that they sell their hardware at a loss at first, so basicly with nintendo, they still get their license money they get with evry single Wii game that is sold, and on top of that they are making money on the hardware.
So you're really getting a LOT more bang for the buck with either a 360 (that is just 50 bucks more than the Wii, and offers performance that's exponetially higher than the Wii.) or you can buy a PS3 for twice the cash, that offers oh, around.. 40 times the performance from just the CPU alone, lets not even get into the graphics chip comparasion, it'd be like comparing a geforce 7800 to an integraded motherboard intel chipset. (hell, the latest intergraded graphics chipset from your mobo just might actually be faster than this thing)
I goofed, i used Mclaren's F1's in an analogy, and somehow typed mercedes instead of BMW, eh. you get the point anyways :P
So it seems the media hate for sony with out a single valid point expands from the net to print magazines, here's a few facts that TIME magazine ommited:

-The Wii Launch line up is ALSO horrible, there's only one good game out for it.

-The PS2 / PS1 launch line up SUCKED balls too

-The 360 launch sucked balls too, it's just till now we have a good looking 360 game, and as good as it is it's overrated like hell.

-The price is expensive yes, and yet unlike the Wii you ARE getting more hardware for your money, the PS3 is sold at a $250 loss, the Wii is sold at $250 and is making more than 100 buck profit.

Basicly nintendos genious is, they managed to get evry fucking idiot excited over OBSOLETE HARDWARE!
Guess there IS a sucked born evry minute!

-The price, while expensive for the PS3 IS IRRELEVANT at this point, they woudlnt' be able to keep up with the demand if they sold it at 1000 bucks at this point anyway, so why lose more money?

-The retarded point of the PS3 being "hard" to develop is the stupidest comment he could've made, even using the power PC processor alone on the PS3 along with the RSX would yield FAR BETTER results than taking advantage of the "full potential" of the Wii.

It's pretty fucking simple, if a developer can't take the time to learn to program for a non generic system, chances are he can't take the time to make a good quality game to begin with, Square-Enix, Konami, Capcom, PD are just a few examples of this, not only do they take full advantage of the system they program for, but their games are, overall of better quality than a developer that whines about "programming dificulty."

The real challenge is that, if the hardware can do more, the developers can do a LOT more too, this translate to more work right of the bat, the models have to be more detailed, they actually have processing power to write physics that can make the game have more depth. they can code better AI, etc.

So really, developers at this point whining about learning to do multicore programming are just pretty much accepting they don't want to do more detailed games, i've never seen Kojima rant about not being able to harness the full power of a console.

So to make a long story short, long term the PS3 has a FAR better chance of doing good, the Wii was obsolete the second it hit the market, and the games look like crap compared to the 360/PS3, right now it's only the "look". but in the future that power will also be used to create games with different mechanics that just wouldn't be possible in an obsolete system.

And you just gotta love their comment about them getting "beat" by the Wii, goes to show you this guy bases his opinions on just reading half assed websites and not the facts:

how the fuck can sony sell more PS3's than nintendo can sell Wii's?

It's like comparing the capacity of Mercedes to make McLarens F1 to ford making a Ford Taurus, OF COURSE FORD IS GOING TO MAKE MORE!
If we're looking for an equivalent, it's been out for 7 years allmost, it's called the PS2, and recently shrinked size to the PSTwo, and guess what? the PStwo sold a lot more than the Wii this year alone.

So really, does anyone else thinks this guy is just a flat out retard? Sony makes less than 400,000 PS3's and sells them all, Nintendo isn't able to keep up with the demand of a 6 year old platform and they are getting cheered for it? they've sold rougly 900k, when in reality they should've been able to produce more than 4 million right of the bat, the hardware poses 0 production challenges and nintendo somehow managed to not being able to meet demand, and they cheer them for it?

"The result? Less blurring, flicker, and a brighter picture with fewer ghost images to boot."

You got it all wrong, LCD's don't actually have a refresh rate. what this means, is that 30 fps, 24 fps, and 60 fps material can be displayed with out jittering, which is an awsome feature if you ask me.
WOW, so this is the real reason behind the lack luster performance of the 360 in Japan, who would've tought.
I guess i was wrong when i tought the 360 didn't do well in japan because it's got no good japanese games comming out for it.
"NICE!!!!!!!! They know they already lost!!!!"

Yeah, because who wants to buy a Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, MGS4, God of war, the next game from the developers of SOCT, DMC, or any good japanese game right?

Guys, it's cool that you like your xbox 360, i like mine too.
But it's time to wake up and smell the coffee. Most of the best games come from japan, and few of them are ever gonna bring anything worthy to the 360. (FFXI?? come on, that's a PS2 game.)

Before E3 i thought there was some hope. But after E3 it's pretty clear to me that even though MS has signed up those developers, few of them are bringing worthy titles to the 360.

It's cool that the 360 has a few exclusive games, but for the most part we've been getting a LOT of straight PC ports. so you really have to wonder whats in it for the PC user here. (sure, people with really bad PC's or that don't have a PC really get a benefit from a console like the 360.)

The only title i'm looking foward to in the near future is gears of war, it's got a true next-gen engine and if it plays like it looks we're in for a treat... Can't say the same about Halo though, never been a fan of that series, and Halo 3 looks like halo 2 on steroids as far as the engine goes.
It's understandable that Bungie would release a new game that used their existing engine until they can come up with a completley new engine, but for me that dosen't do anything considering how much i disliked the first two.

So it really makes me wonder how even tough Sony's next console has a higher introductury price, it's gonna fail if it has support from the best developers.
The only real treath for the PS3 i see is the Wii, that console will become popular in japan and might get some of the attention from the best developers in Japan.
The Wii is gonna be cool at first, but i figure that once we start seeing what true next gen consoles are capable off people will never look back to old technology such as what the Wii offers. Counting on games like Gears of War, Gran Turismo 5 (not GT HD, 5 should be at least 4 years off.) MGS4, FFXIII, GTA4, etc. to really harness the power of true next-gen consoles.
American developed SH?

I'll pass.
"It is unfair for Verizon, especially if you use their broadband for a competitors voice."

Excuse me? how the hell is this unfair?
VOIP eats no bandwidth whatsoever compared to what technology is capable of delivering these days, we don't need the telephone anymore.
It's an obsolete service, it's just taken waaay too long for the people to realize that we can actually live with out those monopolies.

It's unvelivable how clueless people are about how technology works, if you use a regular phoneservice: YOU ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF, ITS OBSOLETE!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
