ChangeWave survey shows a bump for business Mac purchase plans {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jul 10th 2009 3:41PM That is a myth. A very silly myth if you ask me.
Mac OS X is safer than Windows because of the BSD and UNIX legacy. It's the security model, it's that simple.
No hocus pocus about how "few" Macs there are. If anything Apple has sold millions of Macs the last few years, so we are no longer a tiny minority.
It's just what PC users use for an excuse, rather than admit that Mac OS X is very good.
Chrysler fills out board of directors {Autoblog}
Jul 6th 2009 9:57AM Where I come from the government runs major energy companies just fine, and not only do they balance their budgets but create surpluses. So it /is/ possible :)
Unions always work for their members, but at least there are some sensible people in them here. I don't know about the UAW..
BREAKING: Bankruptcy Judge OKs sale of good assets to New GM {Autoblog}
Jul 6th 2009 9:51AM I think you need to watch some other news sources, or rather not just American sources, because the world economy is both good and bad. It's not all bad at all!
Some countries are feeling the pain a whole lot more than others. From my point of view the US is hurting considerably more than most European countries. At least in terms of people loosing their homes and the evil circle of unemployed people reducing sales.
And China is shifting gears to domestic consumption. Australia has enough resources to overcome the downturn. Etc, etc.
My own country is hardly feeling anything because of our huge cash reserves, people here are enjoying the low interest rates, increasing prices in the housing market. We had our housing market crash in the 90s, it's been strictly regulated since then, so no "subprimes" here.
The point is that the global economy is not that integrated, there are plenty of local variables. "One man's death is another man's bread".
Beijing Automotive bids for Opel; Magna still expected to close deal {Autoblog}
Jul 5th 2009 5:54PM Magna is not just led by an Austrian, he built the company from scratch.
And the company that actually makes cars for the German brands is Magna-Steyr, a company they bought from Steyr-Daimler-Puch. Don't call it Magna, it's a whole different company.

Jul 5th 2009 5:52PM Nick, yes, there are a lot of car companies out there. However Opel is a profitable company that produces for the European market, it is worth a lot of money in the right hands.
GM can't afford to keep all of it, but they would like to if they could. There's no point in closing it down to aid your competitors when you can have that market share yourself.
P.S. You obviously don't know the European car market(s) where Opel is a real brand and the other GM brands count for little.

I think we *should* care who buys Opel, because GM will still own parts and continue to work with Opel.
If the Chinese use it to steal technology GM might find themselves competing with their own products. What good will an extra 100M do for GM then?
VIDEO: German man takes delivery of his 135th BMW {Autoblog}
Jul 4th 2009 2:11PM You are just being silly, of course he can *testdrive* other cars without owning them...
Obviously he likes the brand more than the cars themselves, otherwise he might have been tempted to buy some other brand every now and then.
REPORT: Dodges to be rebranded as Alfa Romeos in Europe {Autoblog}
Jul 3rd 2009 11:27AM @Mr Oak
Wow, what a d**k. You want a pi**ing contest? We can do that.
Too bad that website you are reading is possible because of the work done at CERN in Switzerland where the European scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the WWW and the browser...
Or how about that mobile phone standard most people in the world use (GSM) was invented right here in Europe...
That GPS system you like would be impossible without the invention of satellites (see Potočnik, Arthur C Clarke, British and the Russian Sputnik).
P.S. You are welcome to our x-rays (Mrs. Curie, Mr. Röntgen), penicilin (Mr. Fleming) and other useful inventions like the AUTOMOBILE (see Mr. Benz).
And good luck with that theory of "democracy" and Parliamentarism you borrowed from Greece and the UK. You are very welcome.

To the level headed Americans out there: where would we all be without each other? Take the Space Program, where would it be without Von Braun? America and Europe together can do anything!
Kindle's German launch stalled by T-Mobile and Vodafone? {Engadget}
Jul 1st 2009 4:31PM This has nothing to do with what product is "superior" or not. Amazon's Kindle is great, but it won't be as profitable to T-mobile's as their own project obviously! Your theory of "anti-American" tactics are laughable.
I for one am pushing hard for the single EV-DO network in my European country to open their eyes to the possibilities of selling the Kindle and their network! They have a nationwide network solely dedicated to data traffic, not a single phone on it, and all the major cell phone networks here are obviously GSM (3G). What a match made in heaven!
Review: 2010 Ford Fiesta Euro-Spec almost ready for U.S. arrival {Autoblog}
Jun 30th 2009 4:18PM Please understand that European car prices do *not* compare with US prices in any way.
Cars in Europe are heavily taxed by the governments for various reasons like road maintenance, green taxes and anti-consumption.
And never mind the differences in relative purchasing power makes pricing in Europe usually a lot higher.
A typical Ford Focus in my country starts at 25.000 USD, but the average salary is 46-47.000 USD.
